Following on from my post around the Logitech, working with a really helpful Logitech guy we have discovered that the V6 is only responding to RF commands (I think it's Bluetooth) not IR. I really need IR, so any suggestions apart from new box?

Have you tried resetting the remote by holding the TV and Clear buttons together until the light at the top of the remote flashes green twice. Then press the thumbs down button 3 times. Press OK, the light at the top of the remote will flash green, after 10 seconds the remote will revert to infra red mode
I have, thanks. Virgin have sent a new V6, but I'm on hols at the moment so no ability to test
