V6 and 5GHz wifi?

I am trying to get my V6 box to connect to the Virgin Hub5 with 5GHz.
Previously it has been connected via ethernet to a TPLink router that is bridged to the hub.

Trying catchup on some channels is slow, so as the 5G wifi is around 70Mb and my TPLink router is only 2.4Ghz, I thought I would try the wifi.

I disconnected the ethernet lead and connected to my 5G SSID. Added the password and connected.
However when I look at the details, the Gateway is 0.2 which is the TPlink router, not the hub, which is 0.1?

Futhermore, when it comes back as a fail, it offers See more information.?

Nothing is shown and one cannot get out of that screen without going through the connecting stage again? Seriously, who programs these things. :-(
Not seeing more information allows you to back out of the connecting option.

So how is the box when selecting a 5G network connecting to a 2,4G router?

After connecting to the 5G about 9 times, I have finally got it to recognise the hub as the gateway, and managed to get Finished on all the stages, when Loading Info took an age?
I know I am connecting to the correct wifi as it has a 5G suffix for this very purpose.

This post started out as asking how to get, what I have finally managed to get after about 30 minutes.
I would still like to know how the box can connect to a 2.4G network when I have selected the 5G network? It states that is connected to the 5G network, yet the gateway originally connected to, can only support 2.4G???

Can someone please take feedback for the god awful connecting screen logic?

Replacing the cable with WiFi is a bad idea. Ensure the hub is in modem mode and that only the TP-Link provides wired and wireless broadband.

Hub is upstairs, in what used to be a room I used as my office.
TV and V6 are downstairs in the livingroom.
Been this way since the first Virgin modems.

TPlink router behind the TV is for anything that needs an ethernet cable.
Wifi on 5Ghz is working fine, now I have the gateway as 0.1

Turns out that the TPlink router did have DNS on, so switched off.

Absolutely this. I struggle to think of any scenario in home-networking where wireless is better than wired.

What do you mean by "catchup on some channels is slow"? HD streaming should only need around 5 or so Mb/s on average, this will vary +/- a little bit depending on which specific source/app.

TP link routers are only 2.4Ghz, so the bridge from the hub upstairs to the TPlink router behind the TV is 2.4Ghz, and the most I could get on my laptop when using 2.4 was about 20Mb.

Laptop on 5Ghz can get 70+, so I expect the hub to be about the same? Unable to see for certain as no speed test screen that I have found on the V6?

Delete all the Wi-Fi profiles from the V6 an add in only the one that you wish it to use.

"Gateway is 0.2 which is the TPlink router"

Be very careful not to have 2 DHCP servers operating on your LAN, when two are present the one that responds first wins and can lead to a network with no route to the internet. Perhaps turn the TP-LINK Router OFF for the moment.
