Uhd on HiSense TV

I was going to pay for Sky Sports UHD but looking at the rugby on TNT Ultimate it was dim and washed out compared to the HD channel

This seems to be a old problem as it looks like Virgin and Hisense dont work together

Is there any answer?

I did find a big difference with Wimbledon on UHD through the V6 vs through the App on the TV. It seemed very washed out and chalky. We do not have a high end TV, it is not OLED or anything. I just can accept the UHD/Dolby Vision/similar signals, this doesn't mean that it will perform well though.

I made lots of changes against the recommended stop points that Sony give on the TV and this helped a lot. I am sure somewhere I also changed a UHD signal setting, away from "Auto". Maybe even choosing one that pretty much turned it off on that signal. I think this kept the 4K but the colour went back to looking normal.

There might be similar settings on your Hisense, I will take a look later.

Just to update Hisense will be sending me the latest update so will see if this makes a difference

The update does not load  so I have cancelled the UHD package

It's possibly due to the actual TV. Some of the older and/or less expensive TV's don't have a bright enough peak brightness to work with the type of HDR that TNT and SKY use which is called HLG so the picture can appear washed out/dimmer.  Ideally the TV needs a peak brightness of at least 600 nits (aka cd/m2) Streaming apps such Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime don't use this type of HDR and so aren't prone to as much dimming.

What does the TV picture look like when selecting UHD using it's inbuilt iPlayer?  Is there any difference using the V6 boxes iPlayer in UHD?

You might be able to play around with the picture mode settings such as Vivid or Sports on the TV to achieve a better balance, or delve into some hidden picture settings (try googling) on the TV such as those found on my LG TV (see  <Here> ) and maybe set the picture to HLG or SDR to see if that improves it.

A quick google shows, "Hidden picture settings on a Hisense TV can be found by accessing the Picture menu and navigating through submenus like General and Advanced Settings. Key "hidden" or often-overlooked settings include disabling features like Light Sensor and Intelligent Scene for more accurate picture quality, especially in HDR content. You can also adjust settings for specific use cases like Game Mode to reduce input lag."

Something I find strange is that when Im viewing TNT ultimate and go to the Virgin Home page and that is dim.

But if I view a hd channel the homepage is its normal brightness

I have the same problem with Sky Sports UHD so now I have to go back to my previous package and take it off

Are you able to change the picture settings according to the signal input. Not just everything on the box, but different settings for UHD, Dolby Vision etc.
