Sky Cinema UHD

Hi,

We have the Ultimate volt bundle and the sky sports UHD add on, however I went to watch a movie in UHD and it’s states I need to subscribe? Progressing this prompt it tells me that subscription is not available on my account and to contact support. I would have thought UHD movies were included with the ultimate volt bundle.

  • Hi Frostygills

Welcome back to the community forums

Sorry to hear of your concerns surrounding Sky Cinema UHD.

Though Sky Sports & Cinema are currently included with our Ultimate Volt bundle, the UHD channels such as Sky Sports UHD and Sky Cinema UHD are an extra add on.

As such this would need to be added onto the package as it is not part of the bundle. If you have Sky Sports UHD added on already, this is an extra £7 a month. If you would also like to include Sky Cinema UHD then we can combined these Sky UHD into one which is currently £10 for both.

If this is something you'd like to add on Sky Cinema UHD, then please contact the team as instructed on your TV to subscribe.

        Hi sharpmurray

        Thanks for your post.

Could you provide some further information for us please?

Are you a current TV customer of ours?

Could you expand on the offer you're referring to please for £10?

Please pop back to us when you can.

  • Volt can mean a number of different packages, some include TV as part of the main package, some don't. Are able to see your contract? If so, is there anything in the box "main services" under TV? I have nothing there with Flex and a stream box under "add-ons", the next box down. Are you the same?

  • Being on Mega TV means you are not on the Flex package as they are different TV packages. As such ignore what I said above about Flex not including Sky Cinema and Entertainment UHD as an option, as it doesn't apply to you. It also means that you don't get the automatic 10% off additional subscriptions that applies to Flex customers.

However, looking at Virgin's main package page - https://www.virginmedia.com/broadband/broadband-and-tv the small print under legal stuff includes under TV:

Sky Cinema and Sky Entertainment UHD requires a V6 or Virgin TV 360 box

Assuming true, and the page seems up to date, then it is the box and not the package that prevents a subscription to Sky Cinema and Entertainment UHD content, so only Sports UHD is allowed on the Stream box.

As further up that page it points out that

Our TV and broadband deals all come with our Stream box

it implies that no new customer will be able to have the Sky Cinema and Entertainment UHD pack and existing customers with the Stream box will also not be able to have it. Assuming that page is not lying, it is something that Virgin Media ought to make clear in their advertising and to their sales and customer support staff who don't seem to know about it. It does also seem to be quite a restriction on their box going forward.

I  can see no reason why Sky Cinema UHD isn't available for Flex customers as it's just a monthly add-on.

See what I wrote above. It isn't just Flex customers who can't subscribe to Sky Cinema and Entertainment UHD, it is hardware rather than package related. Virgin Media are saying that no one with a Stream box can, which includes new customers on any TV package.

It can't be a hardware issue as the box supports multiple UHD channels.

Licensing?  The same reason as BT/EE TV can offer Now Ultra Boost?

None of us know the real reason at this stage, assuming that Virgin Media haven't made an error on their website.

Being able to show live channels in UHD isn't necessarily the same as being able to show on demand in UHD, but the fact that they sell it for other boxes for customers on the same package, e.g. Mega TV, means that it is hardware rather than package related. They will sell it to you if you have V6 or 360 hardware, not if you have Steam hardware.
