Re-setting volume/mute code on Tivo V6 remote

I would like to restore the default setting on my RC.

Several years ago, I altered the code to suit my Sharp TV, but now this TV is faulty and needs replacing.

I can remember using the CLR/TV buttons  to enter the appropriate code and would now like to reverse this procedure to restore the original code, but what is this code?

I can see that there is an on-screen function to re-set the RC, but would this delete all my recordings?

It is a software update however you would be sent a new TV remote.

Thanks for the reply.  I know the procedure for RC reset, but would this remove all my recordings?  I wouldn't mind this, but my wife wouldn't be pleased!

Currently we do not have a working TV and I am using a computer monitor to get by.  The monitor does not have a facility for controlling sound remotely and I need to restore this function to the Tivo box, without making any other alterations.

I have installed the Tivo app on my phone and this works very well, apart from not having the essential volume/mute functions!

Sorry to hear this,  however the way currently is via the link.

What is wrong with the TV, is the physical box or the TV handset?

The TV switches itself off, a few seconds after switching on, either by using the ON/OFF button on the TV or on the Tivo remote. I don't think there can be much wrong with the TV, but finding and/or replacing the faulty component could prove tricky.  Many years ago and before TVs were computerized, I was able to fix problems myself.  Nowadays we live in a throwaway age!

I still don't know if  re-setting the RC would delete all the recordings.  Also, when I originally put in the code (0170) for my Sharp TV, what was the code that was over-written? If I knew this, then I could then restore/re-set the handset to its original condition.

As I stated earlier, the Tivo app works fine on my phone but I don't understand why volume/mute was left out.

Thank you, newapollo.  That was the detailed explanation I was looking for, so I will try the reset.

The app I am using must be the one you referred to and not the Tivo app that I assumed.

My computer display has an HDMI link to the V6 and works fine with the V6 for both video and sound, but there is no direct control for the monitor  However, I get much better sound quality by using a couple of amplified speakers plugged directly in to the V6 audio output socket.  All I am missing is Volume/Mute control.

I will report back when I've tried the reset.

      Hi again snoman

Do you have a computer as well as the monitor?  If so you can use the TVGo browser version linked below to watch most programs available with your VM TV subscription.

      https://virgintvgo.virginmedia.com/

If the monitor is attached to a PC then you should be to attach the amplified speakers directly to the audio output port on your computer. That way you should be able to control the volume using the mouse pointer on the PC (there should be an icon in the right hand corner of the taskbar, probably near the clock as shown in the screenshot shown below)

(I have speakers attached to my computer and use the computer mouse to control the volume. I sometimes use my computer to watch programs on the monitor using TVGO via a browser. (The computer can also be attached to a working TV via the HDMI lead to watch programs on the TV))

Thanks for the additional info, re using a computer to watch TV, however, I wouldn't need this facility as my wife is the TV addict and never gets near my computer!

I've had a look at the "Help and Settings" menu on the TV box which lists the following options:

    Clear or Reset TiVo box

    Clear Thumb Ratings

Clear Programme Info and Planned Recordings

    Clear and Delete Everything

Could the first option be the one I need?

I've also had the following message on the TV app: "TV box needs a free upgrade to TV360 as software upgrades to current box will be discontinued".

My current box was replaced in June.

Thank you Matthew.  I have "cut to the chase" and just placed an order for a 360.
