Virgin 360 refresh rate @4k

I have 2 TVs both next to the same V360 box. Both are 4k, one 100hz and has been connected to my box. The second TV is 120hz, not connected.

There is no way I'd ever need to watch 2 different channels at once so I'm opting for a HDMI splitter and watching both TVs from the same box. (Same channel is fine as the kids will put Disney+ on the TV and kick me to the other room to watch sport)

I can't find the refresh rate for the V6/360 box anywhere! The reason it's important is because you can buy expensive 4k 120hz splitters but there is absolutely no point if the box won't put out anything above 50fps (this is what I'm assuming is broadcast)

The 360 can present and support up to 4K. This will depend on a few different things such as what channel and what quality of that channel is, which can range from SD to UHD.

The 360 box will try to upscale, and depending on the brand of TV that may show true 4k but it will not upscale everything to the same resolution as not everything can be upscaled to that, such as SD will never be 4k, it will be HD max.

  • I think the answer you want is the spec below taken from the following link.

     https://uk.pcmag.com/virgin-tv-v6/86599/virgin-tv-v6-hands-on-and-first-impressions

    Video

    • 16x9 and 4x3 aspect ratios supported
    • Video resolutions supported: 2160p, 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i at up to 50fps (frames per second)

It's for the V6 box but the V6 and 360 basically have the same hardware.

You are mistaking the STB's frames per second (FPS) with the TV's Hertz (the refresh rate, being the number of times the image is refreshed a second). When the 360's HDMI resolution is set to automatic (recommended) the 360 sends all content as 2160p50 to your 4K TV which creates the necessary number of frames from 50FPS to fit its display’s refresh rate, be it 100 or 120 times a second in your case.

I recommend you get a powered 4K splitter from a reputable supplier.

  • Just to add to the other reply your TV's motion settings (might be called different with different TV manufacturers) can affect the refresh rate.
