V6 to 360

Ok so VM told us our box was unable to get software updates anymore and would we like to change to 360 "services"

We were told we would get a new box (and to dispose of the old one in an environmentally friendly way), but all they sent was a new different remote, so we waited for the 5 days incase a new box was forthcoming but then found out it was simply a software upgrade to the virgin360 software. Yes we were told any recordings would be lost, fair enough.

Anyway, we have a HDMI cable linked to our living room that goes to our bedroom tv so we can watch VM channels in the bedroom after going to bed on an evening. We have a "magic eye" set up that allowed us to change channels from the bedroom via the magic eye on our living room V6 box and extra remote in the bedroom which works with the magic eye to change channels on the V6 box.

Now to the problem. Since we installed the "new" 360 "app"  we cannot use a spare 360 remote to chnage channels from the bedroom, as i have searched on here in the forums and it appears to be a step BACKWARD from VM in NOT SUPPORTING MORE THAN ONE REMOTE TO THE NEW "SOFTWARE CONTROLLING THE 360 app!!!"

If i had known that before "upgrading,- (maybe that would be better called A DOWNGRADE!)   we would have remained with the Tivo software as everything was working as we wanted it too- NOW IT DOESNT!

The only way round it is to retune the bedroom 360 control each evening when we go to bed and retune the living room 360 controller  next day which is going to be a bit of a pain in the arse to be honest!

Why why why do VM have to make a pigs ear of  everything they do when its classed (by them) as an improvement/upgrade?? they did the same with logging into your account (even to pay your bill!!!) and forced you to add an additional email rather than let you use the tried and tested ORIGINAL NTLWORLD EMAIL AND PASSWORD we had used for years without problems!

Seriously I am thinking of leaving VM, especially with their constant APRIL PRICE INCREASES ABOVE AND BEYOND INFLATION RATES!

We have been with VM eversince they took over NTL who always gave excellent service, but VM have fast become a farce and this latest con in getting people to change from TIVO TO 360 IS NOTHING SHORT OF A CON.

IF VM OFFER YOU THE CHOICE DON'T DO IT! STICK WITH YOUR V6 AND TIVO SOFTWARE or change to SKY! and this was on top of the problems in the box actually installing the soft ware (I had to reboot the box several times to get it to install properly and then the remote refused to scroll down to the OK continue button and we were stuck at the top of the page unable to scroll down to the ok button) and recognising the remote in the first place, and i followed all the instructions to the letter! EVEN NOW the new 360 remote will not work the volume on the tv/box and we have to use the old V6 remote to turn  the volume up or down! and these are only the problems we have discovered since we "upgraded" the soft ware this evening!

AS THE SAYING GOES, IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!

Perhaps VM would like to comment and PERHAPS ALLOW THE USE OF MORE THAN ONE REMOTE ON THE BOX SO WE CAN CHANGE CHANNELS FROM MORE THAN ONE ROOM- I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO GET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO CHANGE CHANNELS IN THE LIVING ROOM BECAUSE THE "GOOD OLD SENSIBLE WAY" IS BLOCKED BY A FLAMING NONE- UPGRADE AND BACKWARD SOFTWARE NOT ALLOWING MORE THAN ONE REMOTE! heck even the old TIVO SOFTWARE ALLOWED THIS and VM claim it to be old fashioned and not up to modern standards! (rubbish - it was better than this new poop they have pawned out onto us!)

    Knows their stuff

You've discovered what many others have found out, the 360 is a downgrade for the customer, but an upgrade for VM.  Its a saving for VM as they can use ther own inferior cheaper software, rather than paying for Tivo.

VM of course dont want you to have one box giving a feed to 2 rooms. They want you to pay for 2 boxes This is also a part of the 360 'upgrade' to their profits.

I have seen suggestions that the ONEFORALL urc7125 remote will do the job, BUT i havnt heard if it works as 'well as' the VM remote or whether it is just an alternative to buying a second VM 360 remote (which i have stupidly already done, expecting the remotes to work as they did on the tivo system just with a different frequencey) rather than VM's one remote  to one V6 box system. In other words as an extra controller to the VM one and which doesn't need retuning to use from room to room and retuning the original one back in the other room everytime?

This restriction applies to TiVo/V6 just as much as it does TV360.

No it doesn't. Our V6 box could be controlled using a different remote from the bedroom using the magic eye set up we have WITHOUT affecting the living room remote control-  the "new upgraded" 360 system will only allow one remote with one STB and will allow pairing of only ONE 360 remote at any one time. The old V6  allowed us to have a second remote inn the bedroom in addition to the living room remote and both worked fine.

    On our wavelength

The 360 Is definitely a downgrade from the V6. I "upgraded" 3 years ago & had so many problems with it. It took 3 weeks of arguing with VM to get a new V6 box because they can't reverse the upgrade. They said the V6 was no longer available but on 1 of my many calls where I was passed from person to person, I had asked for retentions but I passed through to sales as it was a Sunday & they had already gone home, I was told if I payed extra I could have a V6. I was fuming when I spoke to retentions the next day & told them if they couldn't supply a V6 cancel the contract. It was agreed an engineer would come the next day to install a V6 even though I said I could install it myself. It was a afternoon appoint & at 8.00pm they had no idea where the engineers was. Luckily I spoke to someone who knew the value of customer service & he arranged for a new V6 to be sent by courier which I received a couple of days later & I installed happiness since. The person that arranged for a engineer, called a few days later & asked why I had a box sent rather than the engineer. I told him the engineer never turned up. Gave me £25.00 for the engineer not turning up, because that what they would charge if your not in. We then agreed an amount for all the inconvenience caused.

I started getting messages on the home page of the tv to upgrade. I contacted VM & told them in no uncertain terms they should not upgrade me & they have put it on my file that there is to be no upgrade without asking me first.

    Hope this helps you.

  • You could use TVgo app as a remote on your phone.

  • Yesterday (sunday) we made the fatal error of accepting VM's "fake upgrade offer" from TIVO TO 360, and aside from the remote control one remote only per box con, today we have NO SOUND ON SEVERAL CHANNELS- IE BBC 1, BBC2, Channel 4,5HD, E4, BBC3, BBC4, SKY SHOWCASE, SKYWITNESS, SKYMAX, SKY COMEDY, u&ALIBI, U& DRAMA, SKY CRIME, SKY SCIFI, SKY ARTS, U&GOLD, U&W, U&DAVE, U&YESTERDAY,5 ACTION, SKY HISTORY, COMEDY CHANNEL, CRIME+INVESTIGATION, MTV HD, SKY MIX, GUEST TV, 47 HD, 4MORE HD, BBC SCOTLAND HD, ETC ETC, looking now at the list, it seems to be affecting the HD channels mostly, itv 1, 2 3 etc all working fine, so thats another problem that 360 gives to you as an extra present!

Does anyone know or can confirm this to be a HD programme problem and how it can be resolved PLEASE,

Ok I think Ive sorted it, i altered the HDMI settings so they were NOT automnatic and the sound came back. HOWEVER, we cannot alter the sound up or down using the "new" VM remote  control, that problem still exists grrrrrr

You shouldn't have any problems with the sound.

Just for general information for anyone who might want to help, is the TV connected directly to the 360 box or do you have a soundbar or any other audio equipment connected.

It also helps for manufacturers name and model numbers.

How did you pair the remote by TV model number or using the volume up and down method.

You can get a third party remote to control the 360 using Infra Red as the supplied remote uses RF after the initial setup. You can also use the TVGO app on your mobile or tablet.

The OneForAll URC7125 and URC1240 have been popular choices for other people.

        Edited to say:

I see you have been advised about the remote's on your previous posts.

PS. i bought a one for all tv remote to use as a second remote in our bedroom  (rather than take the VM remote up and down stairs and so we have 2 remotes working on the one tivo box as we used to have) the one i bought is the OneForAll URC7125 and after a lot of faffing on i think i have finally got it to pair with the Tivo box, at least as far as chanel changing goes, BUT the up and down sound buttons again won't work on the tivo/vm set top box, pressing the up/down volume controls does nothing. Yes the tv is connected directly to the tivo box (now 360 software) outlet (via a hdmi splitter to take the signal/programms upstairs, and changing channels via the Magic Eye we have had for years, but still seems to work as far as channel changing goes from our bedroom) Just also to confirm we had sound yesterday on HDMI channels BUT NO volume up/down working on the VM remotes, it was only after we put the tv on again today that the HDMI channels had lost the sound/volume, but i think that is now sorted by changing the HDMI settings and HDMI does seem to be ok as regards sound, its the volume up down thats never worked on the VM contoller/remote. We can turn the sound up and down using the tv remote, but that means we still need 2 remotes at hand as you will be aware that sometimes when you change VM tv channels the sound can vary per different TV channel, some channels being louder or quieter than the previous one you were watching.

Hi Sammydarlo 👋 Welcome to the community forum! Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about your recent experience with the TV360 box following an upgrade!

We sadly can't offer support with the Magic Eye use or functionality as it's 3rd party equipment. We can't offer support with use of our equipment outside of it's stated purpose. (In this case, it's creating multi-room viewing use without the correct supported equipment or services, and goes against our Terms & Conditions outlined here 👉 https://virg.in/legals

We can provide TV360 Mini boxes as an additional service which come with their own remote and setup, to facilitate you viewing via your Bedroom TV if you would like us to help you get a package sorted which includes this.

Each TV360 Box has it's own unique remote which is paired to the TV Box - however as members of the community have pointed out, you can use you our phone to control the TV box via our TV Go App 👉 https://virg.in/tvgo

You can also  find general help information about using your TV360 remote here 👉 https://www.virginmedia.com/help/how-to/tv/using/using-the-remote
If you are experiencing issues with the TV360 remote when using it directly with the Box itself - please let us know so we can offer help with this. Your TV360 remote should control the volume of the TV it's connected to via HDMI - so the issues may be linked to the 3rd party equipment you are using. If you can please try using a standard HDMI connected to your TV via the TV360 box and let us know if you have the same issues? We can then offer further support if you are having issues with the correct TV360 Box and remote.
Thanks for your patience and understanding in the meantime. 🌞

As has been stated on the forum many times, Horizon V360 & Stream are the systems used by VMs parent company. They don't want to spend money on a legacy TV system from a company they have absorbed. With the move to Full Fibre TiVO & V360 broadcast recording boxes will be out of the window in a few years anyway. Sky are going in the same direction, as the satellite system they use to drive their SkyQ recording boxes reaches end of life in 2030 & is not being replaced. The standard box with Sky is now Sky Stream, which according to reviews is not as good as the VM alternative.
