V6 to 360

Hi,

Just a quick question please.

We currently have 2 V6 boxes, one of which is starting to have issues with the recording/buffer in that you are unable to watch recordings due to pixellation/sound issues.

I would like to start the process of upgrading only this box to 360.

I would like to leave the 2nd box as it is now, being the V6.

If i was to start the process, am i able to upgrade only one of the boxes or do i need to upgrade both.

My wife still has a lot of saved programmes on the 2nd box that she doea not want to lose anytime soon.

Thanks

James

    Hi James

Both boxes need to be running on the same operating system, so both boxes would be converted to 360 at the same time.

Have you tried swapping the boxes around to see if the current issues follow the box? (it may be due to the cabling and not the hard drive since you have sound and pixelation issues)

You can always swap them back again.

I suggest making all the recordings on the 2nd box for now since that doesn't have an issues at present,  and ask VM to repair the faulty V6 box (it will probably be replaced with another working V6 box)

Going to swap boxes over tomorrow morning and see how they behave.

Have already managed to now record on the good box but the possible faulty box has loads of stuff my wife still needs to watch before it would be replaced if that was required.

      Thanks

  • The 360 "upgrade" (it's not) as standard just installs new software on the box, so as the issues you're having sound like cable or hard disk issues it's not going to fix them. As has been suggested, you're probably better off just trying to get the V6 fixed and then hanging on to it until VM force you on to Stream.

V6 & TV360 are fundamentally different TV platforms, one household can either be all TiVo/V6 or all-TV360, it can't mix & match both.

From what you've described, it sounds like one of your boxes may just have a fault - if this is confirmed, it would be swapped for another V6 like-for-like. The other V6 in your home would remain totally unaffected by this. Converting your home to TV360 would mean a full reformat of both boxes to remove the TiVo-firmware and install Horizon-TV360 in its place.

You've not mentioned any issues with live TV on the affected box, does it have any? This is fundamental. If the live TV feed is problematic, it naturally follows that recordings from that feed will be. And if you have 2 boxes, then if both are affected - the fault is likely external. If only one is affected, it's probably internal.

If live TV is fine, but recordings are affected, try pausing live TV for a short time and watch it delayed - is this also affected? The box has a hard drive problem if so.

If you are considering the 'upgrade', read through the forum first. There have been many complaints about the new operating system, and a list of all the facilities that have been removed.

      Hi,

I have read plenty on the 360 which is why i am wary and only wanted to do the upgrade on 1 box only at this time but appreciate why this will not be possible.

      Thanks

Report the box as faulty , they should replace a V6 with a V6.
