TV360 Lost All Recordings

Hello,

I recently ran into an issue: when I tried to play back a recorded show, I got a the spinning loading circle but the recorded show would not play and it displayed an error message about calling VM if the issue persisted.

The next day I tried to access my recording again but all recordings (multiple year worth of my favourite shows) had disappeared, and all planned recordings too.

Is there any way to recover the recordings and does the fact that its lost everything mean that the box is on it way out?

The model on the bottom of the unit is 1008R-HDD-VM

Warm regards,

Alan

    On our wavelength

Hi alanore, same thing happened to my TV360 twice. Decided to get an engineer out as like you, I was losing my recordings. Engineer replaced the box and problem was solved. It must have been a bad hard drive as the box was only about 6 months old.

  • Hi alanore,

Thanks for posting, and welcome to our community 😊

We're sorry to hear you've been having some issues with the recordings, it sounds like there's been an update overnight which has caused the recordings to be lost.

Truly sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, but there would be nothing we're able to do to get these back.

Thats unfortunate, but thank you for confirming. If it was an update that caused it I assume I dont need a replacment box, but what is to say it wont happen again on the next update?

A software update shouldn't delete your recordings, if there was a real issue with the update deleting recordings then there would be a lot more posts above it.

The classic symptom of a 360 box on it's way out is to lose all recordings and planned recordings.

You could also try a factory reset of the 360, and if you haven't got any recordings you might as well go for the format disk option and if or 'when' the box deletes everything again then phone Virgin.

        They might suggest you set the Auto delete option to off, it probably already is and shouldn't affect planned recordings but you can check by doing the following;

Press Home > Recordings > Recorded > View All > Manage Storage > Enter your pin > Auto delete when space needed > Set to Off.

You can also do a quick check of the hard drive by pausing and rewinding live TV if that doesn't work then the box definitely needs replacing.

    Knows their stuff

Let's face it, the 360 is a pile of Dodo's droppings. The erasing of recordings is a very common issue. Where as Tivo/V6 continues to be a reliable system. If it works don't 'VM upgrade' it.

        Super solver

I think basically we'll be stuck with Freeview (for a while longer), with an optional streaming device if you want the paid stuff (NowTV for Sky stuff, F1 TV for the Formula 1 etc.) .

The Humax Freely box looks interesting, but I very much suspect that it will be a PVR for Freeview that just has Freely streaming built in, rather than actually being a Freely recorder (especially as the EE PVR won't even let you really  record BBC\ITV stuff from Freeview and instead takes you to their streaming apps when you try and play back a "recording"). I'm hoping that someone may create a proper Freely PVR at some point, but I suspect it won't be a totally legit option!

It's all very annoying, have had to buy Chinese releases of some films recently as they seem unwilling to release them over here, and I very much doubt those are official releases (even though they cost as much)
