TV360 box upgrade

Hi all

I use the VM tv control app on my phone everyday and today it's giving me a message to upgrade to the 360 box. We have 2 V6 boxes currently; main one in the living room, the 2nd in the bedroom.

I admit that we've ignored the VM messages thru 2025, to change/upgrade.

Anyway, now it seems we prob need to make switch.

My main Q is, how do i ensure we get 2 boxes delivered to ours?

Secondly, are there still problems with 360 boxes, that there seemed to be over last 9 months?

Thirdly, do i just need to 'bite the bullet' and get the new 360 boxes?

Fourthly, is it best to call VM cust services to ensure we get 2 boxes sent?

Any helpful comments/advice appreciated

Regards

Dont do it. Its voluntary and you"ll regret it. The 360  is a downgrade on the V6 with a lot of functionality lost. Its for VMs cost saving benefit only.

(And you wont get new boxes, its a software downgrade on your current boxes).

Ta v much, Mr K. I must admit i'm still hesitant, just as i have been the last few months. Via the TV i'd seen the upgrade message the last few months, which indicated a software update, BUT today's message, via the tv control app, seemed to indicate new boxes would be sent. Because the message goes on to say to take old V6 boxes to a recycling centre. My assumption, therefore, is the software update 'solution' has now been replaced by actual new 360 boxes.

Possibly the message about recycling is relevant for people who are still using the old TiVo box, which does get replaced, but maybe not if you have a V6. The other option is that they will send you stream boxes to replace the V6s, but I'm pretty sure they haven't started doing that yet due to the sort of outcry it would likely cause!

As has been said, unless you absolutely need to change to the 360 box for some reason (unlikely, as it offers very little over the V6) then you're better off staying with the more functional and reliable V6 for as long as you can.

  • I have also received the message, and it states that the app will not receive any further updates. I don't intend to upgrade or downgrade as many people think it is, i like the fact that when Virgin Media goes down, I can still watch my recordings, which you can't do with the 360.

I'm not sure what they mean by the app not receiving any further updates. Does that mean it won't show the schedule of TV programmes or updates to the app itself?

I would assume it just means updates to the app itself, but if it's working fine then that's not really an issue. I'm sure there will come a time when the guide updates stop completely but I doubt that will be until the V6 box itself is phased out and people are forced to switch to 360\stream.

Yes, I assumed this was the case, but it's very annoying that the message keeps popping up every time I go onto the app now.

it states that the app will not receive any further updates

Indeed so. I don't see any issue with that, if the existing functionality continues to operate & be supported.

EPG updates are part of that existing functionality.

I still use a V6, and am getting the exact same message. I'm treating it the same way I do every other piece of marketing material regarding the TV360.

Conversions are voluntary although every V6 user should expect encouragements and inducements to continue.

You mention "problems" - much of this is due to misunderstanding. TV360 is a fundamentally different TV platform to TiVo, and is driven by "online-first" and recording-second. If you want a pay-TV service that encourages apps & OnDemand first, but can also record, then TV360 will suit you extremely well.

Except when it deletes all your recordings and planned recordings of course.

Those are often due to failing hard drives, the different software just handles it differently.

You don't see quite as many posts from TV360 users reporting the green "DVR has detected an error" screen of death.

  • Don't do it, the 360 is a massive downgrade on the TIVO/V6 with dozens of missing features, browse these forums to find out the details of this awful box
