Recording schedules

When I set a series recording for 9pm via the guide, there is an earlier showing at 2am the previous morning and it records the programme then instead. I don't want it to record at 2am. How do I stop it automatically doing this?

If it's the same programme I don't see what the problem is unless it's something that has a sign language person on screen like some do at odd times.

If you set a recording on the 360 it does seem to pick up the same episode if it's shown earlier than your scheduled time. It also will record the same programme again if the programme is repeated if you actually started a recording after the programme has started and you originally get a partial recording message, unless you have watched it and then deleted the partial recording.

It's like everything new you get used to it with use and some of the missing features are TiVo patented and can't be used with Virgin's parent company Liberty Global's software, "Horizon" which is used everywhere else for streaming boxes which don't have a recording facility so it had to be adapted for the UK to allow recording.

Edited to add that maybe the box is scheduling the recording earlier so if you wanted to add 6 recordings at the same time they wouldn't clash using some AI, but possibly that might not be the case. 🤔

You say you get used to it and normally, I would agree, but we've had it since July and still struggle and get frustrated with it.

If I try to delete the earlier showing, it tells me I'm going to delete the entire series recording.

As far as I'm concerned, this is 3 steps backwards for Virgin

  • I was told we had to change because a software upgrade was incompatible with the v6 box.

We have had the 360 box for about 3 months now and we hate it. It's interface is unbelievably unuser friendly, and the remote control is far to small with buttons to close together.

I wish we still had the v6 box..

I agree, had it for a couple of months and it is awful. I was told I had to change, but it isn't even a different box. Just wiped everything and dumped the terrible system that is 360 on the old box.   I've been with virgin for about 20 years, I think I'll move elsewhere when contract ends.

Yes, seriously considering leaving at end of contract too.

We've had the new 360 since July and are still constantly frustrated with it

What's the issue with your TV360 recording the first available episode? That's the intended behaviour on TiVo firmware and I don't see why Horizon/TV360 should be any different.

Is it causing a problem? And if so, what?

The problem is that one specific channel seems to have faults with pixelation on the recordings at that time. We don't get that issue on the later showings.

Yes, I could record them individually, but then what's the point of series recording?

Didn't have this issue with any previous form of set top box from virgin, and we've had them all.

Can you be specific about which channel you're having problems with?

There's two main reasons that spring to mind as to why a particular channel should have issues at a particular time..

1: External interference from somewhere in your home, or affecting the drop-cable from the streetcab.

2: Some planned works higher up the broadcast chain, most likely the head-end or broadcaster. I'd expect an outright drop of TX though, not necessarily pixellation.

  • If you could answer japitts question about which channel and programme then someone could set a recording and see if they get the same problem.
