Pixelation on some channels

Hello, does anyone else have pixelation on some channels now, like Channel 5 HD, Sky Sports Darts HD, Sky Sports NFL HD, just to name few of them? They are probably on the same frequency. Thanks

  • The channels you mentioned are all on the same mux, just been watching (and still watching) the Freddie Mercury program and not seen any problems, are you still seeing problems or have they stopped.

Pixellated pictures on live TV are often the sign of a signal fault. If you've rebooted your box once, then there's likely a fault somewhere, so this will need VM to intervene. You're likely to need either an engineer visit or a replacement box, depending on what VM's remote diagnostics turn up.

Digital TV platforms (including VM) carry channels in small clusters, known as multiplexes. A signal fault affecting one multiplex will affect all channels carried on that frequency, but other muxes will be unaffected. The allocation of channels across multiplexes does not follow EPG positions, and is (to the end user) random.

First check the automated faults line for any existing issues in your area that could be the cause: 0800 5610061. If nothing's reported, assume VM don't know about your fault and ideally you'll need to call them.

150 from a VM phone, 0345 4541111 from any other phone - choose the options for "I have a fault with my TV service". Alternatively you can wait on here for staff to respond, which may take a day or so.

I am wondering if there was an issue at around 8pm last night. I recorded both Susan Calman & the Freddie Mercury programme from 5. The first 15 minutes of Susan Calman was unwatchable with scrambled pictures & sound, which cleared and came back several times. By 9pm it was stable, & no problems with the Freddie Mercury programme at all.

  • They stopped and they were fine 10-15 minutes after I posted here. As others had the same issue it means it was a Virgin fault. Nothing to do with my cables or anything inside or outside my house. I checked the fault line and the service status page before posting and they didn’t show anything. Thanks for the answers. Hopefully it is solved now for everyone affected.

I'm a few episodes behind Susan Calman, but my recording from last night does indeed show some picture breakup for the first 15 or so minutes.
