Pixelation on certain channels

On sky witness hd and film 4 hd I have noticed in the background poor picture quality and blocky picture especially in action moments. I have a Sony soundbar connected where the virgin box 360 is connected to my soundbar then soundbar connected to tv. Could this be causing the poor picture quality or is it the virgin box ?

  • Hi Gary_72,

Thanks for posting, and sorry to see you're having some pictures issues.

Can you go into the settings menu on the box and ensure the picture resolution is set to "automatic"

Let us know if this helps/ if you're still having issues with it.

Hi my hdmi resolution is already set as automatic.  I only seem to notice poor picture quality on certain hd channels especially film 4 HD, sky witness HD. I recorded a film lost city on film 4hd and also same film on channel 4hd. The resolution of picture was fine on channel 4hd but not on film 4hd. So it's not my tv it's obviously these channels

Pixellated pictures on live TV are often the sign of a signal fault. If you've rebooted your box once, then there's likely a fault somewhere, so this will need VM to intervene. You're likely to need either an engineer visit or a replacement box, depending on what VM's remote diagnostics turn up.

Out of interest, are any of the following channels also affected? BBC1-Scotland HD (862), Eurosport1-HD, Sky History HD, E4-HD?

First check the automated faults line for any existing issues in your area that could be the cause: 0800 5610061. If nothing's reported, assume VM don't know about your fault and ideally you'll need to call them.

150 from a VM phone, 0345 4541111 from any other phone - choose the options for "I have a fault with my TV service". Alternatively you can wait on here for staff to respond, which may take a day or so.

Thankyou I know definitely sky witness hd and film 4hd I have problems with. I'm going to check those other channels you said for picture quality. I recorded same film on film4hd and channel 4hd. No problems on channel4 hd. So Is it a problem where vm is getting these channels from?

Digital TV platforms broadcast channels in small groups known as multiplexes, a signal fault will affect all channels on the affected frequency.

The groups do not relate to EPG positions.

Which cable are you asking the OP to check, here? The HDMI connection between TV360 <--> TV? Or the incoming co-ax feed?

Can you check whether OnDemand is similarly affected by picture breakup? This will prove the problem away from HDMI and onto the co-ax live TV feed.

I've checked on demand for the programmes and channels I was having problems with  and the picture quality is fine no breakup
