Missold tv package

I was told that the package I was ordering included recording facility by the sales rep but engineers turned up on Friday with streaming box and told me it couldn't record as it had no hard drive. They told me it wasn't a problem and that if I rang customer services they would put it right. Other parts of package were also not as requested. I have been on phone most of the day either trying to speak with a human being rather than a robot or being transferred to many different departments.

Sales retention said there are lots of people with the same complaint regarding miselling of recordable boxes.

I have chat transcript saying that details were processed incorrectly, that it would be £49.95 for a box and finally that they don't have any. I tried to cancel but there are now no other broadband providers in my area. I have made a complaint and then received an email saying that the complaint has been resolved (it hasn't) but when I spoke to complaints team they said it hadn't been closed and didn't seem to believe me. Due to this conflicting information I asked for written confirmation of this open complaint by text or email but was told that he can't send emails as it is dealt with by a different department. When I asked how the matter would be resolved he asked if I could prove misselling.

I have a couple of emails from the sales rep and a transcript from the chat with them but as most of it was on the telephone with the rep, I am not sure how I can prove it. I had contracts sent but didn't even know what an Apollo box was until it arrived and the rep told me in one the emails that some of the items that I had requested, which were not correct on the contract, would be changed after installation. Without being able to prove all of this I expect that the complaints team will probably just fob me off.

I have only been with VM for two days and already think this was a big mistake and wish I'd checked reviews online before signing up as I'm now stuck with them for 18 months.

  • You in fact have a 14 day cooling off period (12 days of which are still left).

  • I know but no other provider for broadband in the area and too expensive to split.

I thought BT were everywhere in which case you could have EE who have a box that records.

        Very Insightful Person

I'm not entirely sure EE-TV boxes do record. At least they're also heavily pushing the facility to "record" from OnDemand sources.

Sounds like a case of some VM 'confusion'. VM does 'confusion' very well.

Depending on how you placed your order, you should be able to collect evidence of what you were offered during the sales pitch via a DSAR.

Yes very confusing, not two people gave me the same information. Thank you for the link I have requested information from them.

the sales rep will tell you what you want to hear to get the order - thats is he/she actually has any knowledge other than to agree with you - keep the 14 days as an option but dont let it pass as the confusion will just get worse - imo you would be better to cancel and take a breath and if you ten decide the olny option is VM start again
