Apple TV Odd Behaviour

Evening,

I’m 360 box user, converted on box from an old v6 box, and very much enjoy the switch. One benefit has been the Apple TV app, which I’ve been using regularly.

However, booting it up this evening, rather than the app launching to its navigation menu, it launched straight into Apple TV show trailers (e.g. Christmas Car Pool Karaoke), but not just one, like several one after the other. I didn’t stop to see how many it played in a row, as by the sixth or seventh I was very bored. Also, during this, no controller buttons worked, aside from those that take you back to the 360 menus (at which point going back to the Apple TV app just started the cycle again, starting with Car Pool Karaoke every time…).

Thinking creatively I did have the show I’m watching in my 360 Watchlist, and navigating via that menu did launch the Apple app into playing that show correctly. However, on that show finishing, instead of returning to the menu, the app autoplay launched back into (this time different) trailers. Again no buttons worked to prevent this happening or allow another choice.

This is a very new problem. Presumably there’s been an update to that app, which really doesn’t work. Everything else on the 360 seems to work fine.

This isn’t going to ruin Christmas, but does make show discovery on Apple TV+ hard. Please can someone look into this and potentially regress the update back to the prior version?!

  • Hello johnwilko,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community 😀

When Apple TV launches straight into show trailers there should be an option on the top left hand of your screen to press 'back' to get to the main menu during the trailers, and once you press that you can get out of the series of trailers. Once this is done, you should be able to interrupt the trailers on subsequent app opens using the down button.

We hope this information helps and please let us know if you require any further assistance.

Hi - I have exactly the same issue. Been working fine for months and all of a sudden constant trailers. Dean, unfortunately your fix doesn’t work - there are no buttons in the top left when the trailers start, as John described. The only buttons that work are those that take you out of the app completely. Seems like a bug in the app - can someone take a look at this please, as we currently can’t watch a service we are paying for.

      cheers, Sam

  • Me too.  Apple TV adverts play, kind of like SkyTV "turn turn" adverts  and culminating with the Ted Lasso "Believe" and then blank screen.

No buttons work during or after the adverts.

If I use the home button which is the only one that works it Exits to home screen. And then if I return back to Apple TV app goes to black screen.

In frustration I hardly reboot and then try again Apple TV then just repeats the adverts and then to black screen.

I also tried to search for programmes in Virgin programme guide "Severance" which I know is Apple exclusive.  Selecting this went straight to black screen

Apple TV is basically dead at this point.

Been on hold to speak with support over 1 hour now (still on hold).

    Thanks

  • P.s. upstairs box brings up Apple TV logo and then the login barcode over the top of the same adverts playing.

The downstairs living room box doesn't bring up the Apple TV logo or the barcode

  • I just wanted to reply to say my original issue as reported did eventually resolve itself. I presume an update came down shortly after (say within a week) and so the next time I jumped in it was working again. That’s not to undermine the points raised by others today - they report exactly what I saw at the time and indeed felt at the time. I’ve just checked today and my app is working (I was prompted to sign back in mind, which is unusual). My box is on v5.15 and Apple TV app is version 15.1.0.1046.

I have exactly the same problem as johnwilko.  Unable to use any controls on the Apple TV app, which just scrolls through trailers and ends with a black screen.  Has anyone fo7nd a fix for this, since mine has NOT fixed itself?  Thanks
