Why Has YouTube Become Unsable?

It used to be okay, now it's become worse and worse, to the point of being unusable.

It goes something like this: you access something, the picture is initially shocking, after several minutes you get to proper picture quality, after maybe five minutes or less it will go to an advert, then the rubbish picture quality returns and the cycle continues until you are automatically kicked out of YouTube completely, usually after less than 10 minutes.

What's the explanation?

It seems to me if the function is there it should work properly.

Thanks

You've posted in the TiVo forum, so I presume that it's the TiVo-YouTube app you're posting about.

If so.... the box is now 14years old, and is elderly by current standards. It's long since been replaced with the V6 which runs the same TiVo-software on a much newer and far faster box. There's also the alternative TV360 which uses the same current hardware but runs alternative software.

If your TiVo is restarting itself - which you allude to - that's a fault. Faulty TiVo's are replaced with V6 as a matter of course, if you have VM home broadband. Do you?

  • Hi IanS,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're sorry to hear you've had some issues with the YouTube app on your TiVo box. As the TiVo has it's own internal modem, it doesn't use your broadband connection so the quality can be lower due to the age of the box.

We won't be able to fix this remotely so I would like to arrange for an engineer to come to take a look at this for you. They will likely replace the box with a V6 for you.

I just need to confirm the address to ensure we are booking the visit on the correct account. I have sent you a direct message to allow us to do this with you in a private space. If you are using a PC/Laptop then you can just click on the little ✉ at the top right-hand side of the page to access your inbox. If you are on a mobile/tablet device then instead click on the little circle icon in the top right then select 'Messages'. 😊

    Thanks,

      Thanks for the reply.

As I said in my direct message I have a DVD Player/Recorder connected by scart to the Tivo box. I don't want to lose that function which is presumably, what will happen if the box is just swapped out.

        Hi,

Isn't it possible for you to plug the SCART lead into your TV as a seperate port, or get an adapter to plug it into a different port? This might be your only option if you want a better TiVo box.

        All the best,

        Noah

You're correct to state the Scart socket connection is unavailable on the much improved, newer & quicker V6.

If you're not willing to lose that connection, I fear your only option may be to put up with the elderly TiVo.
