Upgrade to VM360

I got an email today telling me that I must upgrade my TiVo Box to a VirginMedia 360 Stream Box.

Given that the 360 is not a DVR, and the TiVo is, that seems like.. a downgrade, not an upgrade. In any case its moot for me, I don't use the TV part of the package. I only took the TV service and Landline phone service for the bundle discount.

Given that I don't use the TV part of the package, do I really have to go through the hassle of "upgrading" to a inferior Streaming box, that I also, won't use. Then going through the hassle of returning the TiVo box to a parcel shop, and getting charged for not returning it even though I did..

I really don't want to go through all that hassle over something I don't actually use..
So is it actually mandatory?

First off, which box(es) do you currently have? Is it a TiVo or a V6? Both run TiVo-software, but are very different beasts with connectivity & capability. Check the pictures on https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-boxif you're not sure.

If a TiVo - the newer hardware is undoubtedly more capable, and a lot quicker in general operation, but be aware the Horizon-software that drives TV360 is substantially different. TiVo has lost most, if not all, of the mainstream apps, and I doubt is that great at any that are left.

If a V6 - this is a software change. Uninstall recording-centric TiVo, install online-centric Horizon in its place. Come at TV from a totally different angle. To be fair, the 360 box does qualify as a DVR in that you can record onto it.

Stream is a different proposition entirely. Both TV360 & Stream both run Horizon firmware, but the 360 has recording capabilities, the Stream box doesn't.

There has been marketing material circulating the past couple of months which implies that a conversion is compulsory. It's not.

Do nothing. It is a downgrade and voluntary.
