Tivo Box Finally Died

My (elderly) brother has a very old Tivo Box, probably at least 10 years old.   It has finally stopped working with what sounds like a permanent hard disk seeking noise.

He only subscribes to the VM TV package.  He does not have broadband as he has no devices such as a laptop, and uses his mobile for all internet related stuff.

We have tried without success to get through to the VM help line.  What options does he have that does not use broadband, would the V6 box be ok, or will he have to take a broadband package out just to be able to use one of the more modern boxes.

VM will provide a free 360 with a hub (as the 360 needs a hub to work) but no broadband will be available unless he chooses to upgrade to a broadband/TV bundle.

Thanks Roger.  Will the 360 work without a broadband subscription?  I thought not, hence my question about the V6 box.  Can we get any VM TV service without broadband?

        Knows their stuff

Not any longer. The old Tivo worked without one, as it had its own internal BB connection. However I think  VM give you a free ( 50mb?)router in such cases with a replacement tv box. Try and get a V6 rather than the 360, the software is exactly the same on the V6 as your old tivo,   just a lot quicker,   so would be easier for your brother. Or alternatively,  dump VM.

The 360 must use the hub to work properly, but what I'm saying is that VM will provide a hub at no cost for TV-only customers who are forced to upgrade to a 360. However it's unclear how long this free hub will last for, and no forum team member has, AFAIK, been forthcoming about it.

      Thank you.

Could a forum team member please DM me to advise how i can progress this upgrade request.

  • Please could a forum member respond to sort out a faulty old Tivo box.  We have no TV service.

Bumping a thread puts you to the back of the queue.  If your need is urgent it would be best to ring VM Customer Services.

  • We've been ringing customer services for the last 2 days, can't get past the automated press 1, 2 3, 4 etc.  Would be great to actually speak to someone
