Problem with old Tivo box

Hi,

I have two problems:

(1) My old TIVO box fails every so often. It starts flashing various lights (red, green and blue) and the tv cycles through varios screens including going blank. It has to be switched off for a while and on again to restart it.

(2) Apps such as iPlayer are very slow to load and startup.

Do I need to have the old TIVO box replaced?

John

The legacy TiVo was first launched in 2010 - 15 years is positively elderly in tech terms.

Problem A - If your box is rebooting regularly, it's got a fault.

Problem B - The TiVo has always been quite slow at loading apps, the current V6 runs the exact same software on a much newer box, and is far quicker.

Report your rebooting box via the usual faults channels (0345 4541111, 150 from a VM phone or waiting here for a few days) and a faulty TiVo will be replaced with a newer V6 as a matter of course. The only requirement is that you have VM home broadband.

  • Hi cm1924

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your TiVo issues. Do you see any error messages at all when the TiVo fails, either before or after it crashes?

Do you have any communications from us regarding a free upgrade available to you for the set-top box, this is usually sent via email or offered when renewing a contract. Checking the systems on our side, the set-top box is showing as unreachable (possibly turned) so we've not been able to run any remote testing. However, it's more than likely that this will need to be replaced with a TV360 set-top box is it's unresolvable.

If you would like for us to try troubleshooting, are you able to keep your TiVo on while we try this?

      Hello Carley-S

      Thankyou for replying.

If it's of any use, the label on the back has the following information:

      MAN: 2015:10

      S01014G542603446

      M: 3C620057EAF3

      NAGRA IRD: 1872355125

      SMT-C7100 500GB

No I haven't noticed any messages before it crashes. The screen goes blank, then comes on again and then blank etc.. The various lights on the frot go on and off (they are green , red and a blue one on the right).

I did have an offer of an upgrade but didn't take it at the time. I have since looked for it again when I login to my virgin account but can't find it.

Yes I would like you to troble shoot it, though I would prefer a new box as this one is old and slow. The Tivo box has been off most of the day as I had to move it because of some work we were having done. It is now on again and I won't turn it off again.

      John

This is absolutely not true, unless there has been a recent change of policy and this hasn't been communicated to the VIP group.

TiVo's are fault-replaced with V6 NOT TV360. I'll ping ModTeam to clarify this.

    Knows their stuff

The danger is that they offer you a 360 rather than a V6. The software isnt as good as Tivo. Insist on a V6 running Tivo software if they replace it.
