Gig1 delivers 1 gig to hub but not to my computer

Hi,

I seem to have a problem similar to others recently. I am on Gig1 but the download speed at my computer is around 400 Mbps. An engineer came out today and tested the system and all was OK at the hub with over 1 Gb so the problem is on my side. I have the hub in modem mode connected to an AmpliFi router. I have replaced the cat5e cable with a new cat6 which made no difference. My ethernet card is a Killer E2200 Gigabit controller and the driver is up to date. I ran the Samknows/realspeed test and it shows this:

 

In case the image does not transfer properly, the speed at the router is 1145 and at the computer, 276. 

My processor is an Intel i7 4790K @ 4 GHz with 16 GB of RAM

I have no idea where I go from here and would appreciate any help or suggestions.

    Had a similar issue a while back, I was running ethernet to PC via same setup as yours, Modem and router. My issues was my antivirus software was throttling speeds and also browser. To test I switched antivirus off and tried multiple browsers and got upto the subscribed speeds which was 1gb, I averaged 950 down and 80 up at the time.

    Disable EEE (Energy-Efficient Ethernet) or green power options on your NIC

    or format reinstall windows without 3rd party Antivirus

    To test, bypass the AmpliFi and connect the pc directly to the Hub, if you are getting gigabit line speed (about 930-940Mbps) that would point to a setting in Amplifi. If you are still seeing around 276, then look at the QoS or "gaming traffic prioritise" type setting in the NIC driver, if any of it is enabled, try disabling.

      Stefcolosi thanks for the help. I have looked at my network card and by searching found out that it could be limited to 100Mbps but when I checked on 'Speed and Duplex' in the advanced properties it was set to 'Auto Negotiation' which is what people said it should be. As you can see from my other replies the hub is downloading at 1 Gig but that speed is not getting through to my computer even when plugged directly into it.

        Thanks for reaching out to us, sorry to hear you are having a few speed issues with your Hub and PC. Can I ask, which ethernet port were you using in the back of the Hub solely PC to Virgin Hub and not using your Amplifi?

    Do you have some "intelligent" network software installed? I would try without, as my first try.

      Gitty, as far as I know I don't have any kind of intelligent software running. How would I find out if I had please?

    I see that you must be running in router mode on the hub. If you are using your own router why is this? As you are in router mode plug you machine directly into the hub and rerun the speed test. Also what hub is it?

      Thanks Tudor. The hub is a 5 and it is as you say, in router mode. The reason is that the WiFi was so poor that I use an AmpliFi as a WiFi router and it works very well. I plugged the desktop directly into the hub expecting 1 Gig but no, I only got 410 Mbps. I think this kind of confirms that it is my computer causing the problem as the engineer got 1Gig when he tested it on his machine and Samknows also shows this. What now?
