broadband virgin media 350 speed test on wifi

Just installed my hub 3, 2 days ago. I have 2 pc,s on ethernet direct to hub, a receiver direct to hub, a laptop and 2 phones on wifi. Everything is running fine, but on testing the phones and laptop speed tests, the phones run at 367bpm but the laptop struggles to get to 22bpm, they all were tested right next to the hub Ive even got a dongle on the laptop (which im now thinking was a waste of money), Can anyone enlighten me why there is such a huge discrepency on the speed test, between the laptop and phones?

Most recent mobiles are able to use the faster 5GHz Wi-Fi band,
so can see speeds well above 100Mb/s.

The laptop speeds strongly suggest it is restricted to the slower 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band
where speeds below 50Mb/s are the norm.

What make/model of laptop is it and is it 5GHz compatible?

If not you can get 5GHz USB dongles for less than a tenner - I use one for an antique HP laptop and it gets full speeds on wifi. Is the dongle you have 5GHz ready - but perhaps set to receive at 100Mbps rather than 1000 Mbps?
