Virgin Media keeps increasing contract cost

I cannot affrod to pay the Virgin Media contract anymore due to its price hike.

The best I can negotiate is £35. It is not sustainable.

Other advertisement from Virgin Media offering £28 for new customers for the same package.

I might as well disconnect my current contract and ask another people in my household to subscribe as a new customer.

It is frustrasting and takes so much efforts to negotiate the price.

New customer deals are "loss leaders" that are actually offered at less than cost price. If they gave them to everyone they would not be around for long.

You would have to give a months notice to disconnect & then go to another provider for at least 3 months in order to get new customer pricing, even in a different name.

I assume you don't mean that the new customer at the same address has to wait a clear three months after ericjoe disconnects before they, not ericjoe, can sign up to VM as a new customer?

Is it true that another customer in the same address needs to wait for 3 months to get new customer pricing? Please confirm.

I don't believe it is at all and have never come across an example of this actually happening.

Customers on past topics have reported doing this to get a lower 'new customer' price.

Some factors to consider in planning such a move, if relevant, are that any existing VM email addresses close when the original account closes. Any existing landline number will also cease (although some have managed to move a number after a lot of effort and with no guarantee of success). Existing equipment has to be returned and new equipment delivered/installed. The end of one service has to be coordinated with the beginning of the next so as to avoid any periods with no connection.

Sometimes putting in a cancellation can generate a much better price from VM via a retentions callback but there is no guarantee that will actually happen.

If you are still within your contract period, there will be a high "early disconnection fee" applied https://www.virginmedia.com/legal/fibre-optic-services-terms-conditions/early-disconnection-fees

I need to wait till May 2025 to give 30 days notice. I could not terminate now as I ll be subject to £55 termination fee.

So it is ok to get other people in the household to apply for the new customer deal at the same address?

It has been done, but as advised above you have to be prepared for a number of problems on the way.

Probably easier to give in your notice and look for another provider. When you cancel you might get a call back with a better offer.
