Removing old cabling and boxes

Hi, I am getting the render removed from my house and need to remove all the old cabling. This cabling is all redundant and has been cut off inside my house (there is no internet or phone line). In the future I’ll be getting fibre optic which I imagine will be a different cable. How do I get this removed?

Thanks

      Hi LydiaMardell

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.

I'll send you a PM now to get some details, then link in with your local Area Manager regarding this.

If you are not a current VM customer, it will be difficult to organise.  VM would rather you leave the omnibox and cables on the outside for any future customers.    Also there are no photos ?

All those internal boxes and the "brick buster" on the outside you can remove as there are no cables.  As for the grey Omnibox, VM "should" really send an engineer to put a 75 Ohm termination cap on the end of the cable.  Open cables like these could introduce noise to the entire street cabinet and those connected to same.

as a non customer VM are very unlikely to send anyone out - give them a few days to comment and if as usual nothing happens then take wire cutters to the external cable and remove the omnibox - you have asked - if removing it causes network problems which is unlikely then thats not your responsibillity

I had always thought cable ends needed to be terminated?  Although I suppose the cable might be disconnected in the street cab.

This site is about the only way VM will take note of your need to remove the redundant cables.  Hopefully one of their staff will respond and aoffer to help.

But if they have done nothing within a few weeks you can only assume they are not interested in removing the cables, and you will have to do it yourself.
