NYNEX box removal

Hi. We have recently moved into an old house in Macclesfield and are in the process of renovating it, including installing a damp-proofing course and re-rendering. We have an old external NYNEX box and lots of wiring that we need to be removed to enable us to access the wall. I am finding mixed messages about whether this belongs to Virgin or Verizon - is there a way to find out? I am struggling to know who to contact, especially with Verizon. Thank you.

If it says Nynex then it is now part of Virginmedia / VM02. It may still be in use, in which case you can ask them to move it but it won't be easy.

VM are always reluctant to remove these external boxes in case the next owners want services.  All the internal cables can be removed if you are not needing them.

There are no internal cables, there are a range of external cables. some of which have already been cut and some which we urgently need to remove to enabke damp-proofing, re-rendering and sealing. The box urgently needs removing to enable renovation work on the house.

Hi Nana_Brum 👋 Thank you for your post and welcome to the Virgin Media Community 🙂

We're sorry to hear about the situation you find yourself in and the difficulties you've had when trying to get clarification 😔

In order to look into this for you further, we'll send you a private message on here. Look out for the envelope in the top right-hand corner.

        Regards,
        Daniel

  • I have spent half an hour trying to get through to someone at Virgin on the phone, hugely frustrating because none of the options were appropriate and it took 20 minutes to speak to a human who then stopped responding when I said I don't have an account or want an account. This is exactly why we closed our Virgin account last year! In contrast BT/Openreach rang me back the day after I contacted them to arrange removal of their box - great customer service. I URGENTLY need this old NYNEX box removed to carry out damp-proofing/re-rendering/sealing on our very old house. This is going to be our forever house for many, many years so the box does not need to be left for future owners because the tech will have moved on by then, I'm sure. Please can someone tell me how to sort this, we need to get our house ready for a potentially very cold and wet north-west autumn and winter! Thanks in advance.

VM's responses on here to this sort of query are often random. Sometimes a VM person takes an interest, other times not. If there is a H&S aspect (trip hazard) they may be more inclined to get involved.

A VM person should reply here eventually but it may but up to several days from when you first posted.

That's probably the only way you'll get rid of it.

  • why dont you just rip it of? its your property, you have done as much as can be expected, how much longer are you going to try and be nice about it, if it disconnects someone else, tough, you tried.
