I need to find the virgin media cable running under my lawn

The cable coming from the road to my house is running under a lawn that I want to scarify. I can see where the cable comes out of the lawn (I cut through it with an axe years ago) but need to trace it back to the hedge line so I don't damage it. Does anyone know of any official / unofficial or DIY ways to help me trace exactly where the cable is running.

    How about a metal detector?

No doubt something off eBay or Amazon will be cheaper.

Or maybe try a DIY stud/metal finder (to detect studs/pipes in walls) if you already have one.

The cable is usually not very deep (as you already know)!

Good luck finding our RFoG run with a metal detector.
Divining sticks could be more use !

A scarifier usually works on the surface of the lawn to clear moss / thatch etc,  I'd not want to do any manual or mechanical aerating near our RFoG run as it is not far below the surface.

      LOL, yes, good point.

Isn't the fibre housed in a much thinner plastic micro duct?

Edit: Pic allows zooming in and, what looks like, a bit of shotgun coax/phone cable is visible in the soil just above the end of the green conduit.

You should find the pavement tee for the cable and the route is quite possibly in a straight line to the exposed conduit.

Looking around I have seen several cables that appear to have very shallow installation. Many years ago I suffered cable damage with a cable that ran under a flower bed. The virgin tech told me that it had been installed incorrectly as it should have been 18 inches deep ie below one spade deep. The cable was therefore replaced free of charge at the correct depth.

I do not know if this still applies and in any case I doubt that you would want your lawn dug up.
