How do I know what service is available at a given address?

I am buying a house, hoping t complete in a few weeks. How can I tell what services are connected at that address? (without having to jump through customer service/robot chat hoop).

I search the new postcode, pick the house number and the Virgin media website says Virgin is a available at that address.



Is there any way to know/test that there is an active connection?
If they say virgin is available there could it just mean it's stream only? (or do they only say that if it is a proper cabled property)
Could it being "available" reply on there being a line for broad band connection from another supplier or do they only offer streaming over their fibre system?

    Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. To know what is available, you would need to scroll down from there and see what is available.

    There would be no way to tell if there is already service without speaking to our team, or you could check the outside of your new home for a black or brown Virgin Media box on the exterior wall.

    You get a maximum broadband download speed of 1Gbps or 2Gbps in the latest fibre areas. In 1Gbps areas you'll get (probably) a hub 5, in 2Gbps areas a hub 5X. Cable broadband has been very reliable in my 24 years of experience which VM provides over its own network and is not shared with anyone else. For new customers only the Stream box is provided for TV, and you can have up to six boxes. Note that the Stream box does not record and it works best when connected to the broadband hub with an Ethernet cable.

    Once you sign up and agree a start date there will be a 2-stage installation process. The first is to bring, depending on the area your house is in, either a coaxial or fibre cable to the external wall of the house through a duct which is usually under the pavement and typically done a few days before start date. The second is a tech who will attend on the day to install your service and get it working.
