My brother is getting his house refurbed. He has a choice of VM , Sky or community Fibre. Do VM use coax for the TV boxes still? I have a reel of the VM cable that he can use to place it the areas where the TVs are so he's not limiting his options. I have also advised he runs 2 pairs of Cat6 as well. Also if he gets sky Q he could still use the coax too. Have things moved on? Virgin pure fibre is not available. Cheers.

No they can’t, they are similar to all other streaming “sticks”. TV companies don’t want you to skip ads. Recording is only on the 360 and even then it’s time will soon be over.
VM's standard offering for TV is now streaming boxes without recording facilities. These small boxes can be ethernet connected (best) or Wifi. However, if the property is in an old DOCIS cabled area, you can request, at an additional cost of £49.99, a single 360 box that can record. This will require the co-ax cable and either Wifi or ethernet. Any additional TV boxes will be the aforementioned stream boxes. These additional boxes can also play recordings from the 360.
So the stream boxes cannot record via the cloud? One of the best bits about the boxes whether that be skyQ or V 360 is that the recordings are local. You can skip the ads.
With things going on demand, no such luck.
