Hacked OFF

What the heck is going on here? The outer box cover was removed, a splitter was installed and a shoddy connection was applied. Is my line being hacked by a third party? I contacted Virgin Media and was told I was to pay £25 for a technician to attend and correct.

Splitting a working connection is sometimes done as a quick fix to either install another new customer or repair a faulty connection for someone else.

Trace where the two wires go when they come out of the splitter.

If one belongs to you and one belongs to a neighbour, ask the neighbour if they have recently had a new VM installation or repair.

If that is the omnibox for your own VM service, you should be able to get a VM tech out to repair it to a proper condition, with a lid, at no cost to you (particularly since it seems to be installed over a drain!)
