Cable plugged into tv socket

 

Hi all,

Hoping some of you maybe able to help me work out what this cable is.

Ive recently moved into a flat which I believe had previously a virgin media tv set in. I’ve opted for just broadband.

The set up appears to be normal as picture as first picture.

 

But when I go to the other side of the room I have another cable which comes out of the skirting board and plugs straight into the tv aerial socket straight above it. I’m wanting to remove this so I can put a free view docket in which currently isn’t working from the left hand port but if I remove the cable from the right hand port the broadband connection stops working.

Any ideas why this is the case?

    If you are in a flat or apartment with a communal distribution system it is normal to have wall outlets repurposed for VM services. It looks like this is what has happened here. The right hand output is an F screw type connector, so could be used to connect to a satellite dish or to VM services. The left had one is the Freeview type connector, so you will have to investigate what the issue is with this connection in order get it working. This is not VMs problem, so you would need to talk to the building management team about it.

      Thank you, that’s what I suspected.

      Any ideas though, why if I unplug the cable in the right hand plug socket, the whole virgin broadband set up goes offline?

        The right hand output is your incoming feed. This is either going to a distribution point in the flat, or under the floorboards to the other socket your hub is plugged into.
