There are three 'types' VM connection:

    • HFC - Coax from cabinet to your home.
    • RFoG - Fibre to the wall box on the outside of your home converted to coax between the wall box and HUB.
    • XGS-PON - Full fat FTTP where a HUB 5x is used that can accept a fibre connection directly.

You may have remnants of HFC, and are now using RFoG.

Why would they install both them on the same day?

Are you sure the smaller box wasn't there already?

        Better pictures may help.

You should post a better photo, but I suspect the one on the left is an internal termination box and the other an RFoG ONT. Which hub do you have?

Ita actually my mother inlaws house both were fitted 18 months ago by the same installer ( I had virgin guy in today trying to sell me broadband and was explaining I didn't want 2 boxes he couldn't get his head around why she had two boxes so thought I would ask on here)

Thanks for your post Neilwill, and welcome to our Community Forums!

Are you able to confirm what type of hub your Mother-in-Law is using as requested?

What other equipment did she has installed with Virgin Media?

        Thanks
