Virgin still ringing disabled mother in law..

Hi

I took over account when my father in law passed away in July 24. She’s 91, lives on her own, hard of hearing etc. She’s paying for M250 and landline. and doesn’t want a TV package. We live 200 miles away.

I’ve checked the app, and our mobile is saved as the contact for the account and marketing.

Her contract was renewed in Oct 24 so don’t think it’s that.

She’s pretty certain she’s had three calls today. (Can provide numbers later)

Can someone reach out separately to me so sort the problem out.

Many thanks

This gets mentioned on here a lot. It is often hard to tell if it is actually VM's relentless sales people calling or scammers pretending to be VM.

Scammers use automated dialling to call blocks of landline numbers in particular number ranges. They know which number blocks belong to which telecoms provider which helps them pitch their scam routine when the call is answered.

Do you have access to your mother in law's 'My Virgin Media' account to confirm that VM marketing is turned off?

Fitting a call screening device such as trueCall to the line can help eliminate unwanted calls to elderly family members

A VM person should reply to your topic within a few days.

Many thanks. Have updated marketing settings on the app. Interestingly, that section of the app had my mobile (correct), but my late father in law’s name and old ntlworld email address. The account was transferred to me (bereavement process) and my details are correctly shown in security and ID settings.

Will get more details in the numbers used.

      Regards

Have now updated the contact name and email in marketing settings. (Updated to decline marketing)

  • Have just confirmed today’s numbers was [MOD EDIT: Removed]

Have tried it a few times and comes back as busy. Could suggest call centre?

Unfortunately you cannot tell anything from caller ID alone as scammers routinely fake their caller ID. That appears to be a mobile number registered to Vodafone. VM's numbers (which get regularly mentioned on here) are below (but with the same caveat for caller ID spoofing)

Based on the above, I would say your mother in law is most likely receiving scam calls IMO.
