Virgin Cold Calling and Harassment

If anyone is getting cold calls from someone from virgin media and stating stuff about inflation then please get in touch as I have recently renewed my contract for 32 pounds a month. However, I have read my terms and conditions of my contract and it states that the increase will happen in April 2026 not this year. Therefore, I do not know why I am receiving these calls especially during work and it is infuriating that the sales guy with an East Asian or South East Asian accent keep hanging up on me in the middle of the conversation as this is now the second time. If I receive more calls like this then I will have no choice but to go to the police and file an online police report against this person if this continues. I’m not here to take sales calls whilst at work. It’s an absolute disgrace. Hope this gets addressed and sorted out as I am losing patience. look forward to hearing from you.

regards,

  • Hi Samy29,

Thank you for your post. We're very sorry to hear about the calls you've been getting.

To confirm, what specifically are the agent advised about inflation, etc?

I get cold calls every week onto my virgin hub connected phone.

Some do not have a person speaking, just a noise then hangs up, some are scams like amazon, and bank card scams, house insulation/boilers etc., recently I had one about a BT internet connection.

Also unusual I get calls from mobile phone numbers saying- not available, please leave a message after the tone, so someone is spoofing my home VM phone number to ring up mobile phones, not sure why but I just put down the phone. My mobile phone has also had this a few times.

It would be great if technology could help to stop spoofing of phone numbers, and stop this criminal activity which presently exists.

      Virgin help- harassment cold calls

I rang VM and they advised adding anonymous caller rejection which is an add on monthly cost which I have done and hope this will reduce these cold calls, I am already on the TPS register, so many of these calls could be from outside of the UK using voip, but some come from UK mobile numbers identified as the O2 network( and other networks perhaps), I also do use  the O2 network so recognise the numbers beginning 077, 078 which can actually  be EE, Vodaphone or O2.

It is possible also someone is just messing with prank calls, especially when the call ends with a noise or recorded message, but could also be criminals.

I also can see who is calling on my  desk phone and it logs the calls.

I let most calls go to answer phone and genuine callers will leave a message usually.

It is possible to change the VM  telephone number which would be a last resort as there would be hassle of changing the number linked to many contacts.

I was advised never to give out "any data" to cold callers by VM.

If in doubt put down the phone and when the call is closed with dial tone, it is easy to ring back the company and ask if they have contacted you.

I have had quite a lot of cold calls over the last few weeks to my VM hub connected phone which can be annoying.
