Switching my broadband off a for a long period.

I have broadband only and am within my contract, but I'm not going to need my broadband for a number of months and so the router will be turned off for all this time. Ideally, I'd like to pause the contract rather than cancel as this would mean I don't lose the email addresses I have with Virgin. I don't see an option for doing this on their website - does anyone know if it is an option?

If it's not, I suspect I should notify Virgin to ensure that there are no problems when I turn it back on. Given the amount of time it would be unused for, it wouldn't be suprising for Virgin to think there was a fault. What should I do?
