package increasing 300 %

I am now in my 30 days notice period, it ends on march 20 2025. This i have had to do because my package was going up to 189 pounds March 20th then up to 212.42 on APRIL 1st. I currently pay 66.96 for the volt gig 1 package. Having been with virgin and all the previous owners i e NTL Comcast for over 35 years i find this shocking treatment. Can my husband rejoin  as a new customer after march 20th or do i have to go elsewhere, any comments on this much appreciated.

    Some have managed to get new customer pricing by a partner/spouse signing up for a new package but it is not without its difficulties making the transfer.

    One account has to close before the new one opens. You need to return the old equipment and receive new equipment for the new package. Any email addresses linked to the old account should close within 90 days (VM does not issue new email addresses any more). You are likely to lose any existing landline number and get a new number on any new package.

    It is also possible that you might get a call back from VM with a better offer if you have cancelled. But this is not guaranteed and having marketing options on in My VM is advised to allow such a call to happen.

    What other providers do you have available to you? Have you priced up options with those?

    You should balance the options/prices for moving to a different provider against anything you might be able to get from VM.

    Having your competitor options/prices at your fingertips is advised. If you do get a call-back from VM, any offer usually only last for the duration of the call so you need to have your alternatives at hand to know if any revised VM offer is any good or not.

    I was also a very long time user (ex-NTL) but now I vote with my feet, as they say.  I have left twice and come back again.  Each time returning as a "new" customer with the good deals.  It's not for everyone, but worth it for me.  I don't have any ISP based TV, Phone, or Email to move, so it's no big deal to move about.

  • Given these variations, it's advisable to contact Virgin Media directly to get the most accurate and current information regarding their policies. Additionally, considering alternative providers during this interim period could be beneficial. Many customers have found competitive deals elsewhere, potentially saving up to £235 annually by switching providers.

    Remember to compare the services and prices of different providers to ensure you find a package that best suits your needs.

    My previous contract was initially £87pm and coming to its 18-month end the price was going to be £154.96pm. So, I did as I always do: call VM, select "Thinking of leaving" and ask for something better. I made it easier by saying I didn't need the second 360 box, Netflix, Kids pick and Sky Sports UHD, and I was happy to have my M600 broadband lowered and telephone anytime chatter changed to weekend. I had to keep Sky Sports HD and TNT Sports.

    Initially someone in an Indian call centre dealt with me but passed me to an English call centre where I got what I wanted for £92.50pm (thanks Ben). So, always ask for a better deal but be prepared to state what you want and what you can do without.

  • Hi macca159 thanks for posting.

    I can see that you're liaising with my colleague in another thread. I will therefore leave you in her very capable hands.

      Hi Melinda,

      Thanks for coming back to us in the Community. As our security session is still valid, I'll have another look at things now for you and come back to you directly via private message 😊

      Many thanks.

  • Same thing happened to me a while back, was coming to the end of 18 month package, then a huge jump in pricing. I phoned Virgin and managed to haggle for a new 18 month contract saving at least £45 a month by cancelling Sky Sports, but was given Sky Cinema at no extra cost and a 500mgps broadband. Haggling is the best way, Virgin usually gives a decent deal because they cannot afford to lose too many customers. As for what you have suggested with your husband joining as a new customer, anything is worth trying. Good luck!!
