Out of contract but seems impossible to downsize

Out of contract on max package so cost is now £141 or thereabouts.  Called to discuss downgrading and was offered higher prices for less services. The website has a new contract offer which seems to change every day.

The number of streaming services now available on a pay as you go basis (netflix, Disney, Now sports etc)  means it would make sense to have a basic fast enough internet service  and buy what you want when needed for mobile phone and tv.  Virgin media looking rather old fashioned and inflexible.

Anyone any different experiences or tips?

thanks

Your description about high renewal prices and a difficulty in downgrading is repeated regularly on here.

Some have suggested bypassing the first line agents and immediately requesting a cancellation in order to get to agents who may have better offers.

Some have reported getting better offers once a cancellation has been submitted although there is no guarantee you will get a call back with a better offer (and it is recommended to have marketing options on in 'My VM' to allow such a call to happen).

Do your research on alternative providers/prices and work out who you would move to if you leave VM. Have this information ready and at hand in case you do get a VM call back. VM's offers tend to be 'of the moment' and not available again if you ask to think about it and ring back.

  • Cable TV subscriptions seemed obsolete to me the second smart TVs came along.
