Moving address, but... My partner has Virgin already!

Hi everyone...

Not been here for a while, hope this is the right place to pose this question.

Right i'll try and make this short and simple as possible.. I'm about 10 months into a contract Tivo, Broadband 500mb and home telephone (Don't need really but) The contract offer runs out in May when i pay the full price

Anyways.. I'm moving into my partners house at the end of this month. I was told take all my equipment with me (Tivo box Broadband hub etc...) but she has broadband set up there already !(100mb)

Now i was told she needs to give 30 days notice to cancel, then my equipment can be installed. Now.... she's disabled and needs broadband to work as she works from home, so i don't want her broadband cut off while i wait maybe days for my set up to be... errrr set up!

How can i work this??... Because she's not going to ask for her broadband to be cut off till i get there, don't blame her tbh

I'm moving in on the 27th.. Help, i could be missing the Cricket world cup in UHD here! lol

Thank you .

  • When you put your 30 day notice in it would get cancelled for example if I did it today 16th/17th November 2023.

I would personally give the movers team a call to see if this can be done they can be pretty flexible as you mentioned we may not have the latest update on that property on our file.

Movers can be reached on 0345 454 1111. Cheers

Best wait for a VM staff member to get to your post. The best way I can see is to request 2 connections at the new address, they will be of course in 2 different names. Then when your contract "runs out" just terminate it. There is another possibility in that VM has sent out letters saying if you do not agree with the new terms and conditions and the rise in cost next April you can cancel your service, unfortunately I do not know with certainty the cut off date, but I believe it to be the end of this month.

    Hey sjb2371,

Welcome back to the Community Forums and thanks for the post.

With regards to your house move we would say the best way to do this is to cancel one of the accounts and begin the process of moving the other into the right property if this is what you would like to do, I am able to help look into this with you but I cannot raise a house move request myself but I can help guide you further, if you would like me to do so, come back to me here and I can advise further.

Thank you for your reply Joseph

I think that's the best way to go. Cancel my partners broadband and move my better 'bundle' in, but she's not going to do that till i'm living with her

Just a quick question. Does it take 30 days for her broadband to be canceled?  When i move in on the 27th can't we just pick a date after the 27th and just swap over during her 30 days notice? It seems awkward to wait 30 days then set up my broadband etc.. What if it takes  weeks after that to set up my broadband... She works from home and really needs it 😕

  • Thank you Sabrina, i'm going to try and ring the movers team. I've my partners details now, so hopefully it goes smoothly

  • Hiya everyone... Right got in touch with the movers team... Was a seriously long call! Anyways they sorted out a date of 3rd November! So i was well happy. So they cut off my partners broadband, but the engineer didn't turn up till 6pm so she lost a day of work 😕

But the lad sorted it no problems, but he said the 'hit' from Virgin media didn't work on my broadband (500mb) because my package said i had 1TB broadband! So he fitted a new router box in. I also noticed that i've Sky movies on my Tivo. I didn't with my package at my old address!!

Silly question do i have to get in touch because as much as i like 1TB broadband i really can't afford it... Or Sky cinema.

My old package from my last address was £70 odd quid rising to £128 when my deal runs out in May. I looked that in may with this package it will be nearly £200!!

Now to be fair the lovely lady Esther did say to ignore this as i'll keep the same deal as before, but i think she's made a mistake. She did roll off a lot of stuff and tbf i didn't take it all in... She said i'll get a bill for my last address and that account is closed, i've a new account number for this address and she said i'd have to pay this month and next month! It was all confusing tbh... a bit like this post! Sorry x
