Internet speeds- never consistent, help

Hi Ash, Thanks for the reply. my 3 wired connections are as follows. Xbox console 1m cable, Pc 1m cable. Sky tv 10m cable. The 2 cables for console and pc are cat6 i believe , sky is a generic one that came with my previous Bt tv box. Ive checked speeds using wireless devices. As above, 2.4 has far less speeds on say, sam knows or ookla- 5hz last night showed 380mb, but both Pc /xbox hard wired were barely getting a consistent 20mb.  I was told by engineer that the hard wired items take priority? And take the best speed as such. But i dont seem to get that

• The engineer discovers that the fault or problem relates to your equipment
• The engineer discovers that the fault or problem relates to any system that we are not responsible for
The engineer will confirm during their visit if any of these instances apply, and if so, a £25 charge will be applied to your account.

tbh ive not considered anything. 

What i do consider tho, is that someone else on alternative provider locally can do the same downloads on the same platforms in a quarter of the time. Speeds rated similar. surley bandwith, game servers would likely be the same as mine. only difference is the net provider?

Thanks Martyn The 2 gaming rigs in my place ate both hard wired. And on short, ethernet cat6 cables. Downloads are done at different times never simultaneously. i understand the speeds can fluctuate. But the fact its so great, and comparing to someone doing the exact same thing i am round the corner frazzles me.
