150 from a Virgin Media landline (free) or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone (call costs may apply) and go via the 'thinking of leaving us' route. Used to be the case that phoning first thing in the morning gave the best chance of least delay and a UK agent but not sure if that still applies.
VM is highly unlikely to make it easy for you to downgrade. The agent is most likely to try to upsell you a bundle of services for a discounted price.
You usually have most negotiating power in the last 30 days of your minimum term. Also keep in mind that if you start a new minimum term now you may be eligible for a price rise come April so check out exactly what terms any VM offer entails. If you try to downgrade now, VM may try to apply some kind of early disconnection fee on the remainder of the existing contract term.
Before contacting VM again, research the alternative providers in your area and get prices from them for a comparable service. That will help you decide if any VM offer is any good or not. Some providers are offering to pay a contribution towards any early disconnection fees as part of a switch to their service which might help you.
