cheque from 2017 never refund

Hi,
I had contract with virgin back in 2017, when I left my address back in that time I closed my contract with virgin. Recently I had family member visiting our old address and in old letters there was cheque for my refund that I was not informed for so many years. I payed bills using bank account and I expected to get any refund using bank account too. As it stands virgin is still owning me that money and I looking to get them back?
I heard there are many people in similar situation. This seems quite deliberate from Virgin trying to chip away some £ issuing cheques to addresses people no longer live not informing them and hence never refunding what they own.
Any advice ?

Maybe. There is provision for this at N16 of the Ts and Cs. I have asked on the forum before how much has been donated and to which charity but was met with silence from the VM forum team.

  • This really sounds like fraudulent actions taken from Virgin at the end of contracts. What would be rationale of them blind sending cheques if they could just return to users bank accounts right away ? Would it not be the case for ombudsman as it seem to be wider practice by Virgin?

I have read some topics on here where the customer has been refunded electronically and some where the customer has been sent a cheque. It has been suggested in the past that if the direct debit remains in place the refund can be electronic.

Past topics have also mentioned cheques going to an old address where the customer has not provided a new address.

VM's refund processes are slow and cumbersome and weighted in VM's favour.

That said, you are probably being quite optimistic to hope you are going to get a refund from VM 7 years after you left!

By sending the cheque to address that I no longer lived at, they kinda hidden the fact that they owe my money and I only found out about it by incident getting that cheque after 7 years. I can only imagine how much illegal profit they (Virgin) are making additionally by such smart-scamish approach...

Did you provide VM with a new/forwarding address when you moved?
