Cancel landline only

My contract is about to expire and I'm happy to renew the broadband, but I don't want the landline.

We don't have a handset or ever use the landline. Do I have to have the landline "option" i.e. a effectively a top-up to the price, or can I cancel it and retain the rest of the package?

The Online Chat Bot doesn't understand this, and when renewing there is no option to cancel.

I don't wish to have a 45min+ phone call (again!) to discuss what should be a relatively simple tick-box unticking.

ThanksJP

It's a package. If you don't want the landline they will insist on a new package that might cost more.

Yes I know that sounds stupid, but it's the way they work.

  • Hey Poolio19, thank you for reaching out and we re sorry to hear about your renewal. Your package will be built up with everything currently in the package removing anything may cancel some discounts.

You can look here for some renewals

VM always aims to sell packages of services and gives discounts on those packages. Hence VM will often price broadband and landline more cheaply than broadband only.

VM will never offer the tick box options you would like becuase VM wants customers to engage with a sales agent at renewal so the agent can try to upsell more VM services than the customer's existing package.

In theory you can renew with broadband only. In reality VM will very likely make it difficult for you to downgrade in that way (either by adverse pricing or by the sales agents being obstructive in the renewal process).

If you want broadband only you should look into the alternatives to VM that are available to you where you will be able to join with new customer pricing.

You may actually need to leave VM and go elsewhere for a time in order to return to VM for broadband only.
