Can I delay my Virgin Media Cancellation?

I have arranged to switch my services as I could not get the deal I wanted with Virgin, but the installation date for new services will leave us with no services at all for 8 days. Now kids are devastated, but more and importantly I am expected to work from home at times so I can’t really have no internet for a week. Thus, can I delay my cancellation by a week or even the 8 days?
