Is this number legit? 0203[REMOVED]

Decided to finally answer this call after constant harassment and they said they were from retentions. I only gave them my email address, postcode and phone no. and got a better deal.

I searched the number online afterward because my phone registered it as a suspected scammer and found many users commenting that it is a phone contract scam number.

My internet was momentarily disrupted as they said it would, so it would seem legit, but I think they may have hacked my internet.

Please help, many thanks

I'm afraid it's irrelevant whether that number is a legitimate Virgin Media number or not.

Scammers can easily spoof the number they are calling from. So even if that really is a number used by VM (or one of their outsourced teams) that is no guarantee that the caller you spoke to was a genuine VM representative.

"My internet was momentarily disrupted as they said it would"  -  why would someone from the VM Retentions team say that? And why would your internet be disrupted if all they were doing was just talking about your VM package?   It seems a very "scammer" like thing to say to try to convince you they are genuine.

I really hope you did not allow the caller to access your laptop or other device but if  you  have reason to think they may have gained access to information on your devices then you need to assume the worst.

Never gave access to any devices; like I said, gave them only postcode, phone no. and email address, and they gave me improved speeds, no calls since. My internet was actually interrupted, so either they really are from Virgin or did some kind of attack. To be honest, I don't know what my internet speed was like before so I can't really confirm if my speed was increased, but regardless I'm concerned they can do something with the information I provided to affect my internet or otherwise.

Did you get confirmation emails about the changes you agreed to?
