Have account details been leaked?

I just received a suspicious call on my landline from a man claiming to be called Michael Green (despite a strong Indian accent) from Virgin Media who wanted to know if my internet was working alright and who knew I was in Leeds and the last two digits of my account number (I did not confirm either detail). I asked him what my name and address were but he claimed he could not disclose this information. I have since checked my account number and the digits match what he said. I looked up the phone number on who called me and it was a Vodafone mobile, although it may be spoofed. I am now concerned that some account details may have been compromised. Has anyone else received a similar call recently?

The email address seems to have been automatically edited out of my post for some reason despite it being in the public domain on VM's own website at https://www.virginmedia.com/legal/privacy-policy

Unlikely there is a data breach, they have to be reported to I believe a government department.

  • Hi DeeDee24, thank you for reaching out and I am sorry to hear about your call.

I can confirm there has not been a date breach.

Was this the only time they called?

You did right not giving them any information.

Hi Matthew, yes this was the only time. I actually received a genuine follow-up call from the CEO’s office about this after I sent an email as advised in the first response to my post.
