Superhub 2ac....proposed digital landline phone switch .. maybe new router for me.

I have a well used superhub 2ac which goes real well, I have arranged it in modem mode and it connects with a modern wifi 6 Huawei router nearby and TBH it goes so good no trouble whatsoever I get great coverage throughout my semi detached house and beyond into the gardens . Reason for modem mode the 5 ghz signal was irregular so it was been sorted. cables go into rear of Huawei router ..

I have a 250 mg connection with VM very solid no problem ... now I see that with the digital landline switch planned on the horizon my current VM superhub 2ac will not have the rear digital phone connection input.. What type of router should I aquire from VM .?.if need be .. will I have to pay for it ? .. there are two of us now and at most 3/5 devices ever  in use..no downloading films /games etc, emails etc just web surfing so I think 250 + ..is real ok for us. We both use the landline .. wife often for a good time so landline will be required..what hub will I ask VM for, how do I do it please.

Thanks in anticipation we are both senior citizens 70 +. I will not pay anymore to VM its too expensive as it is.

  • Just call it in on 0345 454 1111 (150 from VM line) explaining your situation and asking for a Hub 3. It should be free of charge.

    Hi Alby41

Since you have a SuperHub2AC, then  VM would need to arrange for a technician to replace your Hub with a 21CV compatible one.  As you are on the M250 tier then VM would supply you with a hub 3 which would be compatable with your wifi 6 Huawei router.  The hub3 would have a different WiFi Network Name (SSID) and password to the one you are currently using, so you would either have to rename them on the hub3 to match your current ones, or change all your connected devices to the new SSID and password.

The phone switchover has been placed on pause for the time being, the same as with BT and the wider telecoms industry, please see the info below from https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology

"Last year, BT paused the switch to digital, after some elderly people were unable to dial 999 because of power outages caused by major storms.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "We look forward to discussing in more detail how local authorities and telecare providers can better work with the industry to help identify and support those who are vulnerable or need additional assistance".

"In line with the agreed commitments, we have paused switchovers as we review our processes to further support consumers, building on the range of measures that we already have in place."

If you are using modem mode, then just do the same with the Hub 3.  Your Wifi details will stay the same in this case, as it is the Huawei doing all the routing and wifi work.
