Re: Outlook won't connect to IMAP

New Outlook for Windows is broken again (can't say about other versions) and doesn't even start.  A repair Outlook dialog pops up asking to start with "Just essentials"; followed by a "Something went wrong" error message.  Troubleshooting doesn't work either, and the "issue is under investigation".  A suggestion of trying again later doesn't work either.

500 is the error number, leading me to believe it's an internal (cloud) server thing.

I can't get to the settings page for the version number.  However after a bit of faffing about going through Apps in the settings menu reveals that it is 1.2025.1017.100.

    Fortunately Outlook Classic is still working and long may it continue.  I believe the "New" Outlook is just a fancy wrapper over a web based product.

    Working ok for me currently - same app version number.  I generally use Outlook 365 so don't often look at the windows app.

    Have you tried Thunderbird as an alternative to (New) Outlook? I have just switched to it after my Outlook (Classic 2016) support ended.

    I have been very pleased and impressed with it. Found it vey easy to set up too.

      I found the search facility in Thunderbird to be very weak compared with Outlook. So when I got a new PC with Windows 11 I reluctantly paid out for an Office 365 subscription.  I use excel and word a lot anyway.

        If  you want to test a different free email client then there is one called betterbird which can run on the same profile as thunderbird so it can be used  in parallel to compare the functions. Betterbird has improved search features compared to Thunderbird - there's a feature table comparing the 'improvements' <Here>
