Hitron CHITA - VM Business LAN Ports issues

Has anyone experienced something similar when LAN ports are taken down/off and brought back up/on withing seconds?

Setup:
•    CHITA Modem in bridge mode.
•    Five public IP addresses from Virgin Media.
•    A Fortigate Firewall connected directly to the CHITA, using its own public IP address.

Issue:
•    The LAN ports on the CHITA intermittently disconnect and reconnect, eventually leading to a complete lockup of the ports. We then have to manually power cycle the router to restore connectivity.
•    It appears that the router's cache may be slowly filling up and causing it to crash.
o    During busy days with high user traffic, the LAN ports disconnect and reconnect frequently (approximately every minute) before freezing entirely.
o    During quieter periods (weekends), the issue develops more slowly, but the router still eventually crashes, despite minimal network traffic.

Are there any router settings that could be causing this issue?
Should we adjust the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) settings on the router or the Fortigate Firewall?
Are there any firmware updates available for the CHITA router that could resolve this problem?

Thanks

I think i solved it, I turned off the firewall (have one behind the router) and turned off UPNP and rebooted the router. Its been up for 3 hours now, was not lasting more than about 30 mins before.

Well you get little help here and personally VM way of doing  public IP addresses  on the Business hub is bad you can try and set the MTU to 1476

If it happens again just unplug your router ethernet leave the hub powered on and plug you router back in

  • Thanks Alessandro,

We will try setting the MTU to 1476. We previously verified that the MTU was 1500 on both the router and the firewall.

On busy days, the issue occurs immediately, so restarting the router is not a practical solution.

On less busy days, such as today, the connection remained stable from the morning restart until 1 PM. However, the ports are now intermittently disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes. By tomorrow, these ports will likely be completely unresponsive, requiring another reboot.

This is intended as a backup line to our leased line, but we have been forced to use it for several days. It is not a reliable backup if it is completely unusable.

You might also try a new network cable between the Chita & Fortigate Firewall.

We have tried that, made sure it was cat 5e, tried different ports on the CHITA also. Still the same outcome. Just logged on to the router, firewall was still on (minimal), turned this off completely.

  • I have just had an upgrade to 1Gbps and as part of it got a new modem. I have exactly the same issue. I will keep an eye on it, I have moved ports and changed cable. Just seeing if it happens again.
