Comment on Windows 11 your experience

So much talk about Windows 11, I thought I'd give it a try and see what all the fuss was about.

It took just over an hour to make the changes. I had to download an updated bios for my motherboard, which made the necessary adjustments without having to go into the bios sections and manually adjust items, and you have to do that first or the bios won't pass the inspection and the Windows 11 won't install.

So I got it up and running.  Now checking it out, after clicking on the Windows Icon in the taskbar

Installed software wasn't showing anymore and no tiles on the desktop, luckily I had made shortcuts for the most used software in Windows 10, so they were showing on the desktop and taskbar after the installation.

I found it difficult to navigate around after being used to Windows 10, and a lot of the useful menu items were missing on right-click on an icon. The transparency effects no longer worked either.

I missed the weather and speedtest on tiles and the current temperature and state of weather on the taskbar.  I played around with Windows 11 for a few hours before deciding to switch back to Windows 10 😃

The only good thing that I found about it was that it seemed quicker when using Windows explorer.

So if you've tried it or are using it, what  are your views on it?

I use windows 11 on one of my laptops, it is much faster than windows 10 and has more security but needs the correct chips for the improved security to work.

I find windows 11 harder to manage as things are hard to find in settings, so I use the search  in settings which usually can find the required option if you type in the keyword such as restore point for example. I am equally happy now using windows 10 or windows 11, but would have to upgrade soon as widows 11 keeps getting larger and needing more free space.

My windows 11 will not update to the new 24h2 version so I stay with 23h2 version, not enough space needs 64gb free space.

My windows 10 laptop still works well and is used, but when it ends I wonder what the best option is to replace windows 10 and keep the laptop working.

I still also have an old windows XP computer that  still amazingly works and connects to the internet and runs with the  mypaL browser and avg antivirus, but not in use as will be insecure now.

I prefer windows to my android tablet which has stopped working properly due to support ending so can not use google play.

I may consider trying chromium o/s or ubuntu in the future when windows 10 ends, but would be concerned if things like printers did not work and compatibility with other equipment. Windows is very compatible with most harware/software as a standard worldwide.

Windows 11 needs spare space on the C:\ drive of say 8gb for routine updating (I am not sure of exact requirement).

My spare space had dropped to 3GB as my laptop is only 64gb storage, however to be on the safe side I decided to delete out some apps I was not using and increased my space to 8GB, I was not using x box, skype, whatsapp.

I also did a clean out of temp files in the windows storage options to increase space.

If buying a ne PC, it may  wise to get a larger storage such as 256Gb or larger.

The older laptops used to come with much larger hard drives and worked better, the SSD drives are small by comparison and can restrict storage, and I have used external storage on usb flash drives for music etc. to get around the problem.

In addition I have selected compression on my C:\ drive which zips the files, seems to work Ok with no noticeable speed loss.

windows  11 unusual fault probably after a widows config update kb5035942, no log in box at startup so could not log into windows.

I had to use an old laptop to look this up, I pressed the power button 3 times during startup and it brings up a repair facility. This prompted restart in safe mode, but my pin log in would not work, so restarted again and this time could use the windows password, since then all working.

I have deleted the pins on both laptops as they often fail.

I have not seen this fault before.
