Sound like it may take a while to be fully working, so customers would have to ring 150 for any issues, until it is back to normal again and not just read only. Mixing together two existing platforms may be difficult and relate to to different products O2 mobile with VM so good luck with that and hope it is soon up and running again properly. It could be a problem if the user names from 2 different platforms may be duplicated so what would happen then. I looked at the O2 community and my user name is not duplicated, the current provider is also Khorus at present, I suspect the new platform will be similar to the O2 community which is a lot different to the VM community web page. and has no rankings or badges. Time delay-I noticed this post took nearly 10 minutes to publish, it showed in my profile only but eventually appeared out of time sequence in the thread. Also the sign out button is not working properly so the changes may already be starting. I refreshed the screen to solve that, perhaps the stay logged in was ticked. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake I think that I have finally "banished" the spam emails which avoids danger and Isolates the communications but took me a long time to figure it all out. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake I have used mailwasher in the past, but presently I am just using the VM settings filters in web mail and with practise it is possible to help control spam email. I am using all sorts of my own filters, including "discard" which stops specified spam emails from repeating. The last week I have had no spam emails. The spam emails reduced a lot this year up to now but need to keep a check on them and monitor for fraud etc. I also use other providers now for email now and some do get occasional spam emails so if one looks unusual or goes to spam that is a warning it is not a regular email. I have also beefed up on security with updated passwords and 2FA, I was once hacked by using family names in passwords in the distant past, so now keep them random. Some of the phishing emails are after peoples passwords. As emails can be used to manage accounts the security is important. I find the new methods of security of email accounts difficult and complicated, there are so many options and some have failed so I still use passwords at the moment but I have used keys, apps, pins etc some work and some do not, I have laptops and a smartphone and suspect passwords are the least secure option and they can fail often and have to be changed, I have so many online accounts and have to have a different password for each. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake I can confirm that my spam email has reduced and have not had any the last few days using the email filters to discard spam emails has proved a viable method to block spam. Also the senders will get no feedback from the discarded emails so will assume the email was not read and not send more. I presume spammers do check that emails are valid using email verification, although some emails can not be verified and I have one that comes up as unknown but works. I assume the VM spam filters will block some spam emails and most email suppliers will use spam traps to identify the sources and block them. Some email are tagged as spam. Many spammers use legitimate servers such as google, amazon, or bulk senders to make the spam emails look genuine. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake The discard option in email filter rules is blocking a lot of spam emails, I have set this up to block emails using keywords in conditions "subject" and "from" containing and also using the domain as a keyword. I can block many emails in one filter using rejex. Some will still get through as clever spammers keep changing the email sender address and wording so it is necessary to keep updating the filters, but by discarding the spam emails I do not see them and therefore keeps the inbox a lot cleaner and safer. As probably 50% of the emails were coming form gmail.com, the one simple filter to discard them reduces email a lot and I have added other domains that send spam/scam such as yahoo, outlook. As I not longer use this defunct VM email, in theory I could discard all emails but I allow a few newsletters that are useful, discarding the rest using filter rules. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake I noticed that my VM spam emails reduced in 2025 by approx 80% the figures were - 2022 -414 spam emails (6 months) approx 16 per week 2023 - 2634 spam emails (12 months) approx 50 per week 2024 - 2581 spam emails (12 months) approx 49 per week 2025 - 460 spam emails (12 months) approx 9 per week (reduced by approx 80%) 2025 - 18 spam emails ( upto 9th jan) approx 14 per week Spam emails figures are average figures. I think VM have reduced the spam a lot or the spammers have been blocked. The spam emails continue, but have reduced and originate worldwide. I now try to discard the repeating spam emails using filters effectively, seem to work, so hope to get even less spam in2026. My recent payment verification scam originated from an IP address In Italy. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake Just to add that I get recent emails asking for payment verification which appear to be scams or someone using my email for payments. I just ignore this as the sender address is unknown to me. Also some spam emails will have the words reward. I discard them by using keywords such as payment reward, congratulations etc. I would hope like to delete out this old ntlworld.com email as it gets loads of spam but VM link it to my account so it can not not removed and is a worry that I have no option to remove it as in normal email providers. Re: I got an email from a company from the distance past which may be fake I have now started to use filters in settings to action -discard specific spam emails and pick out a word in the subject as the condition or from a particular domain, but also filtering emails that I do want to the inbox to avoid discard if needed. The option to discard means repeat spam emails will not appear in the inbox. Many of my email will repeat over and over again such as subjects, spins, coffee, solar and many are via gmail.com so I now target them to discard. I have used the words coffee, solar and domain gmail.com. I use other free emails and to log in, now so just try to keep my old ntlworld.com primary email clean and avoid the spam, emails. These are usually phishing emails after bank details or passwords or can download malicious software if you click on links. Discard will delete the email and a powerful way to eliminate spam emails but needs careful setting up of filters to avoid mistakes, so the sequence of the filters has to be in order to have correct operation Re: How can I stop emails going to spam? In some cases of spam email that could be dangerous to the system Virgin will take measures to protect their servers from such emails by blocking them or tagging as spam. Email may be blocked from some senders and may not get through, so best to test out that they do arrive when sent. In some cases emails may have spam content identified which is picked up automatically by the spam filters. Emails that go to spam can be put back to the inbox or a folder if you decide to keep them. Some emails may be dangerous even though they have got through to the inbox as clever spammers can make their emails look authentic by using gmail, outlook etc. Forwarding of any spam or infected emails can be another issue and can cause issues to the recipient email/ third pary email which might block or tag as spam in some cases, so they do not always arrive with forwarding to the inbox. I now avoid forwarding as it can be difficult to manage. Important emails can be missed if they do go to spam. As emails can be lost after 30 days, it is wise to avoid if possible putting emails into the spam folder unless you want rid of them so select in setting what happens with spam, if a genuine email goes to spam it may be lost/deleted after a period. Re: How can I stop emails going to spam? In email settings (gearcog right hand top) the options for spam settings can be set to flag as spam but deliver to inbox, which what I do to avoid emails going to spam. Only emails tagged as spam should normally go to the spam folder. I do place emails in spam myself which gives protection by lining out links in the email so they can be viewed safely. Usually they are deleted in approx 30 days. However recently I have noticed my spam folder is empty which means spam is deleted sooner than 30 days so can be lost. It is common for emails to go to spam even though they are not spam, often happens to me and also happens with other email providers, and will be deleted after a number of days so wise to regular check spam folders. Some emails can be spoofed to look as if they are from a real company but may be phishing. I use email filters and they have not been working properly the last few days so had to check my filters and squencing of filters which can often trip up. There is one solutuion, to use filters to identify an email from say Tesco and move it to a folder called Tesco, I have many folders set up to receive genuine emails so they do not go to the inbox or spam folder but to a named folder I have created in my folders or sub folders of archive.
