I would be very interested in what actually happened, and why it is taking so long to restore historic emails to those affected. I hope historic emails are restored to all affected accounts soon. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 ...and the event has made the front page of the BBC News web site once more. Despite the clamour for information on here it's rare for tech companies to provide a running commentary for fixing an ongoing problem and I don't think Virgin Media are going to provide details. The vast majority of users wouldn't understand the tech details anyway. Axel Wehrle has promised an update early this week. Let's see what he has to say. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 They are still talking about timeframes to fix and they have little to gain by delaying any announcement that historic email have been lost - in fact it could worsen the reputational damage caused by this event. My view is that they still have the data but they haven't been here before and it's taking time to figure out how to execute a potentially complex restore. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 To be just a tiny bit fair to Virgin Media, they didn't actually state that the overnight work was to restore historic emails, just that it was for 'essential work'. Let's see what they have to say at the end of the week (today perhaps?) regarding restoration of historic emails. Re: Loss of Email - F010762348 Tech companies rarely provide details on technical issues, partly because they do not wish to air their dirty laundry in public, so I don't think we will get further details on the problem. They are still telling customers that historic emails will be restored, which is good. I wonder if the reason for the delay is that they are having to transfer data between data centres over a relatively slow link?
