Coax cable connection to V6 box

Hi all

We've had some work done and the builders removed the coax cable that was connected to the wall socket where we had an extra V6 box plugged in. So I bought some cable from B&Q and reconnected the box but there is no signal on the box. It's an old Ntlworld wall socket (see photo) and has two different female connectors. I've tried plugging the cable in both connectors but no luck.

I recall that the old cabling we have in the house is RG59. Do I need a special cable, not the one from B&Q?

Any help most welcome!

VM use special triple screened cable to stop noise ingress. Best to get a tech to supply new cable and check power levels etc. If you introduce noise with a non standard cable it will affect all users on your street cabinet.

Solved!

The box having been out of action for a few weeks was updating itself - seems not to tell the TV this, so the screen was black.

Lets just hope your B&Q cable is as good as the official VM one.  😉

Alessandro Volta

RG59 is an open specification that means very little. There are many different cables called RG59, most of which are not suitable for broadband distribution because they leak interference in and out.  Here is just one manufacturers's list of seven different cables, all called RG59.

You will not get the correct cable from B&Q or any local shops.
